I have a very sensitive scalp, and not once in the past 5 years of using this product have I ever had an issue. I have also tried the 30 volume and did not run into any complications. I am a semi-frequent bleacher and typically touch up my roots every 1-2 months when I redo my hair color. Even with semi-frequent bleaching, I have never had any major or scary damage. Compared to other bleaches, this one has a less pungent smell and does not burn my scalp... I would still recommend you open up a window, though.I am naturally a dirty blonde (I would say a level 7/8), so the 20 volume works great for me :).
