Popular music for the tech-age that was to come
I remember seeing "Video Killed the Radio Star" on HBO's Video Jukebox a few years before MTV went on the air and premiered with the same video as its first offering. Some years later I got the audio cassette and listened to it with interest. The Buggles offer a kind of non-techno music that has a technological edge to it. There's lots of synthesizer, lots of voice modulation, lots of references to science and technology. Being a huge fan of science and technology I really got into the album "Age of Plastic".Listening to it with a more mature mind some of the magic has worn off, but I do still think the music is acceptable, though it perhaps lacks a lot of what I saw as teenage profundity when I first heard it. Even so, hearing the rifts and tunes coupled with a variety of effects, brings back pleasant memories of first experiencing the Buggles as a pre-teen, and then again as an older twenty-something, by which time the Buggles were starting to show their age.The album takes the listener on a journey through the evolution of technology in the 70s and 80s, and where it doesn't give any kind of artistic prediction of what was to come, Trevor Horn and his group offer a kind of tantalization on an artistic level about plastics, medicine, electronics, mass transit, and essentially elements or things that would or could improve on mankind's urban existence."Johnny on the Monorail", "Clean Clean", "Elstree", "Astroboy" and a couple of newer offerings, place you in a kind of almost in a retro-future, where things like high speed rail were not becoming as ubiquitous as they are now, or heart surgery, or new digital media formats and the like. Those are the themes that this album tries to touch on with the artistry in the music. In this sense the music is a bit predictable and perhaps somewhat juvenile, but if electronic music with some traditional rock rifts is your thing, then you might want to give this album a chance. The special edition CD is reissued as a mockup of a vinyl LP with the original LP cover of the two main artists on either face of the album. That, and it comes with three additional tracks, which should prove interesting. It is a popular music album meant for the younger people of the late 1970s and all of the 1980s. In this way it has aged, shows some of its limitations, but is still interesting to listen to. To be honest I really want to give this three stars, but it did make the angsty teenage years a bit more bearable, so I've given it four stars. If you're into retro-music, then maybe listen to this one time to see what you think.

Must have addition to any 80's music collection
I can recall being stationed in West Germany back in the early 80's and i borrowed tgis album from the post library, I was hooked. Coming from the Bronx, I had never heard such mesmerizing sounds before. One weekend with my girlfriend, we stopped in a record shop and i brought my first version of the album. Over the years I have continued to purchase this album in the many formats it came in, ie: cassette, CD, mp3, its just that good! So here I see it listed on Amazon and included is three more trax, that were never on the original 1979 release. What sets this version apart from the others is not only the extra tracks but also the disc looks like a little album! Too cool, if you're a Buggles fan or just love that early new wave synth, this is a must for any collection! This music and others of its time developed in me a global appreciation of music. I miss that first album and that lovely German gal I shared it with, and yes... Vidéo did kill the radio star!

A Must Have Album!
Great record for the first venture of two industry heavyweights! Trevor Horn went on to become one of the top producers on the planet and Geoff Downes went on to produce and perform in Asia and Yes.Good song writing and a very memorable track, with “Video Kiled the Radio Star”, reside on this work from 1979.

Do you like the Buggles
Not much to say here. Do you like the Buggles? Well, you'll like this album. This is the only album I've ever listened to where I like every single song.

This is a really cool CD album to own even if you're only familiar with "Video Killed The Radio Star". I was pleasantly surprised when I got the package to find out that the entire thing is a vinyl replica, not just the CD itself. Its remastered at 24 bit 96kHz quality (note that this means it was only mastered at this quality: the CD itself will play at it's native resolution of 44.1kHz and 16 bit. However there is an audible difference in quality because it was mastered at a higher sample rate so it is definitely still better). Its such a nice CD to own again because its really like a miniature LP record: the "vinyl" sleeve houses the cd and has the lyrics just like it should and goes into the cardboard case just like a record. All in all I am very satisfied with the cosmetic quality as well as the actual quality of this edition. Highly recommend picking this up, even if you're unfamiliar with this album that practically kicked off the MTV era of 80's music and changed the industry, just because its really cool how much like a miniature vinyl album it looks and even feels like.

This 1980 new wave electronic is a great album.
Early 80's new wave electronic from the UK.When initially released the album had two large hits, Video Killed the Radio Star and Clean Clean. The album was the bands first and soon after they joined Yes, but after a couple years they left Yes and reformed The Buggles. Their only other album was not commercially successful, nor was it nearly as good, in my humble opinion. While The Age Of Plastic had several top songs the entire album is well worth listening too, it's in my top twenty list of favourite albums. The band spent a great deal of time getting the sound just as they wanted and the sound quality is excellent. My only beef is the CD sleeve is hardboard, and although it's thinner than a CD jewel case it's taller, so it doesn't allow stacking and doesn't fit into precisely sized CD shelves.
