Moen 920-001 Flo Smart Water Monitor and Shutoff Lithium Ion Battery Backup with 6 Ft. Power Cord

My plumber mentioned that without a backup battery if there are power outages, the Flo by Moen device could be problematic or get stuck in a closed valve position. So I installed this backup battery, and it only took a few minutes to do so. One recommendation to Flo would be to offer shorter, or adjustable, wires for connecting the battery. The standard wire is much longer than I needed.

I purchased my Flo by Moen in January, I had it installed in early February in my second home, then there was a big freeze that drove temperatures to 7 degrees. I was so grateful that I had it installed, because if not, I would have been calling someone constantly to check on my home. I monitored the water flow from my phone and felt that everything was ok. Unfortunately for others in the area there were massive pipe breaks and now I have my home leased for six months to a couple who had pipe breaks all throughout their home. My only complaint so far is the app has a text tool for assistance. It does not seem to be monitored by anyone or if they are then they must be overwhelmed. I have six individual monitors which I am setting up next week so I will know exactly where the leak is coming from.

Easy to install. Wish it had an audible alarmor beep to alert when power is off.

There doesn't seem to be any real communication between the battery and the App or Shutoff, so for the price this is essentially a weather resistant UPS. I think if weather proofing isn't your goal, you can get 4 or 5 UPS battery backups and plug the shutoff into that. Since the water sensors and the shutoff need WiFi to work, it's pointless to have a battery backup just for the valve anyway, you'd want your wifi to stay on as well.

Expensive, but well-built. Look like it should last a lifetime...(only time will tell).

Now that we know how much water we are using it just naturally makes us use less. Love the leak warning and the cut off provides piece of mind. Have sensors near the water tank kitchen and laundry for early detection.

Easy to install very simple process by plumber no electrician needed. Cant provide factual comment about battery life since I just had it installed. Main Supported unit was easily installed. Very impressed.

So far the unit appears to be doing it's job as a back up power supply in case of power failures. It is a very expensive uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS), but as it is sold as a complete solution for the Flo by Moen leak detection system, I added it to my system. My only complaint is that the connector from the battery backup unit to the Flo by Moen power supply is very loose (not a snug friction or locking fit). I actually had to tape the connection together to ensure it maintained connectivity. Maybe I received a poorly manufactured component.
