The Military History

I am a combat veteran who has spent nearly my entire working life in the military and working as a defense contractor. This book ought to be in the library of every military historian and military enthusiast!

This book has some very well written text on military history, selectively chosen to represent distinct historically significant battles and time periods. The illustrations/photos are very interesting and well presented in the text. I have just started reading it and am pleased with buying this book. It seems to have a much stronger representation of earlier periods of history, the bronze age through World War II---so if you are hoping for more modern military history, seek another book. It is not a comprehensive history (it selects certain battles and time periods), but they are well selected across a large period of history and well worth the price of the text (which was also pleasantly discounted on Amazon). Would be a nice gift for a younger or adult fan of history, especially military history. Enjoy.

The Military History: The Definitive Visual Guide to the Objects of Warfare (DK Definintive Visual History...) is a beautiful book. My son loved these books as a kid and we always got the hard cover book. I was a little woried that some of the wonder might be lost in a paperback version and it is just as amazing! The photos and descriptions used to keep him engaged for hours with his fascination for history and even though his is now 32, he will love this book. DK books are wonderful and this a big beautiful bountiful book that entertains, inspires and educates.

We purchased this for our ten yr old grandson that loves anything 19-20th century war. He loves it :)

Military history at a glance. Would like more info about the engine factories... weapon industry and their brands... as much as the airplanes and tanks. And why not... ships too. Would like too... about the military clothes. And last but not less important.. the definition of bullets gauge; I think is important understand the size and gauge...mm, 7.62, .08.. not so clear and who determine it... for all everything... images and descriptions at a glance as I said... are great visual description..!

Very enjoyable book and very with lots of interesting information.

Will make one want more of their favorite era and weapons. Great illustrations and pictures.
