Suspense filled, I was pleasantly surprised & will watch it again, Recommended
Not low budget & not a bad movie. The style is suspense, is it a haunting / a psycho et etc.. to which all is revealed in the last 40 minutes where this movie picks up the pace & delivers. This is not a jumps in the dark shocker, it is more than that, ..nor is there lots of running from room to room screaming & warding off attackers, ..it knows better than to try that.Yes there are a few cliches, but go with it (no plot spoilers from me, sorry) ..solid acting from professionals not simply mates of a budget tight film crew, the story involves the whole family one by one all affected by a supposed haunting then takes a sharp but successful plot swerve against your expectations, if you get a few minutes past the swimming pool scene (as per the trailer) you will likely stick this movie out & have enjoyed it.If you need out & out gore plus explosions aplenty this likely isn't for you, for the rest of us though... 🎁👍👍👍 a big thumbs up.

More than just another paranormal-by-numbers scare fest
Not bad at all, especially for a smaller budget film. The actors portraying a family struggling with general daily life give a very strong and believable performance, including the children, and give the film gravitas and more of a blockbuster feel about it despite this being a smaller film. The films builds very well as their general daily struggles that are typical of many households are intertwined with ever-increasing strange happenings at night which begin to affect them all quite heavily and at first it's easy to think we're dealing with some kind of typical paranormal activity style showdown approaching, but the film pays off extremely well by revealing something of a twist further down the line and with the truth of what's actually happening being revealed the film becomes really very engaging. The films is paced out really well, with the tension and suspense building as more and more is revealed and it's worth sticking it out until things become clearer further into the film.We are not alone!

Well thought out
An average American family is increasingly disturbed by what seem to be alien events. While this film is largely about the existence of aliens and their interaction with humans, there is another story running in parallel which follows the family and how they react in the wake of their own daily issues which are then compounded by the alien menace. This isn't a big budget production but the material has been handled particularly well with good acting and Direction which ensures the alien aspects don't tip over into silliness.Alternate and deleted scenes are included - of particular interest was an alternate ending with Director's commentary which gave further insight into the fate of the family members and how the Director wanted to treat this sensitively. The Blu-ray presentation is very good with clear and crisp video and good dts-HD MA audio although this can be a bit heavy on the bass at times.

Amazon reviews applied to wrong film on Prime
None of these reviews relate to the film - If I had paid for this film based on the high star ratings I would be requesting a refund. The actual film is a very low budget, painfully slow, tv style film about the unlikely scenario of a unspecified industrial plant causing an acidic highly corrosive rain shower. The scientific incontinuity and awful special effects are too numerous to mention.

youre in for one creepy night, should you choose this movie
its the sort of thing that keeps you wondering what is next for the characters. We as the audience don't even know, but we know whatever it is isn't going to be very good. the acting is pretty good standard and one thing i noted was the way the characters would suddenly go from normal, to being in a sleep walk style trance

Strange goings-on in suburbia.
Inexplicable, possibly spooky things happening to ordinary middle class Americans; we’ve seen it many times before and Dark Skies, on the surface, is no different. We have the typical suburban family living unremarkable, ordinarily complicated lives. Suddenly there are strange goings-on and the usual husband vs wife disbelief until stuff starts happening to him too. Cue the kid’s drawings (a much over-used cliché, if ever there was one) and the compulsory visit to a ‘believer/expert’. It’s all very stock-in-trade horror stuff. However, much like ‘Insidious’ (until the last half hour or so, anyway) and the superior ‘Sinister’ the pace and tension are superbly managed as the aforementioned goings-on escalate. The kids, in particular, are excellent; it’s nice to see a young American kid without a speech impediment (apart from being American, obviously) and all of the performances are credible. It’s all very silly and a bit formulaic, of course, but entertaining nonetheless with plenty of splendid jumps, a different take on the old strange goings-on theme and an original ending. While not on the same level of abject terror as the Grudge (my benchmark scary movie), Dark Skies manages to do something slightly different in a completely oversaturated genre.

Hugely entertaining
Watched this on Prime, went into it without knowing anything about it, what a good choice. A real sense of atmosphere is built up, and the acting all round is excellent, everyone was truly believable, even the kids! Will buy the blu ray now, as apparently there is an alternate ending which I've got to see! Highly recommended.

Very good
A very good film. Well acted, cast, scripted and shot with several genuine ' make you jump' moments against a creepy background atmosphere. Naturally, there are some familiar aspects in the tale, the main characters being a middle class-ish mid American family, but the story is gripping with a number of twists and turns that keep you hooked and a 'less is more' approach in regards to the creatures which in this case works admirably. The film ends very well in my view, having got to a point where doing so could have been difficult. Recommended.
