The high quality you expect from Nintendo
This little console is great! It is robust. It gets stepped on in the middle of the night and constantly has little foody, boogery, dirty fingers on the touchscreen and it still works like it's supposed to.The game cartridges fit snugly and securely in the port. They are easy to remove and don't fall out. The stylus holder is the same. The battery life lasts several hours and has flashing red lights to warn your kid that battery is going to die. You can charge and play at the same time. You can SUSPEND a game with a little sliding switch! Holy cow! No more, "LET ME SAVE!"The screens do not articulate like a 3DS or a regular DS. This is a FEATURE! This is one of the reasons we bought this. The less moving part the better in my house.YOU CAN PLAY 3DS GAMES ON IT!!! Only without the 3D (again, this is a feature for our son).I can't think of any Cons. It's a great Nintendo product at a good price. They really hit it out of the park with this console.

for a child's toy it is great
I got this for my oldest daughter, she has been asking and 'hinting' around for this thing for months! I got it on a good deal so snatched it when I could. I do not see how this design is better than the first DS's because of the lack of flip screen doesnt that make it more vulnerable to breaking or ruining one or both of the screens? Also the more my son talked about it, it seems an awful lot like a small mini-computer! (like the silly phones of these days yeah?!) Ok so it connects online, plays games and can log in to check email I think? Not real sure but I am expecting it to grow arms and legs and get up walk into the kitchen and start cooking breakfast at this rate! She loves it though, played with it all last night I had to make her go to bed early tonight by taking it away from her till tomorrow so she can get some sleep. She is very happy with the gift, I guess I am happy that she likes it and it is working alright. Though I think there is some serious design flaws in this product.

Amazing
Your first impression is it looks bad and looks uncomfortable. On the contrary, it looks VERY delicious in person, and holds comfortably compared to the 3DS. It's the size of a 3DS game case. It's design similar to a GameBoy. No 3DS clamshell design, you literally have the screens right in front of you. You won't have to worry about the hinges becoming loose, which is a nice plus. I've had 2 DSi's in the past that came apart due to loose hinges. The 2DS is stripped of the 3D feature, for a lower price. Another nice plus, no? Most people don't use 3D on the 3DS anyway. If you don't care about the 3D, even better. Yes, I'm sure there are games out there that utilize (not necessarily require) 3D for better gameplay. The only one I can recall at the moment is Super Mario 3D Land. Even then, there are plenty of other games on the market that don't require 3D, so it doesn't necessarily matter. The button placements are perfect. You have a FULL grip of the entire system, with each button at the tip of your thumbs. Worried about the L and R triggers? You can literally press them with just the tip of your fingers. They're so big it's amazing. As for the grip of the 3DS, people with larger hands have the grip their system uncomfortably to reach the buttons. I do have small hands and fingers, but to be honest, I thought the grip of the 3DS was uncomfortable and annoying regardless. The L and R buttons on the 3DS are to small in my opinion, and the I could never get a completely comfortable grip on that small surface area. The only con I can think of is lack of portability. For some people, hinges may important so they can fit the system in their pockets conveniently on the go and decrease the chances of being robbed. I agree. As for the 2DS, if your pockets are big enough, it will fit. However, part of the system's wedge will stick out. Nonetheless, it was still pretty badass just to grab the wedge and pull out your system just like that, as opposed to sticking your entire hand in your pocket. Even then, I'm only going to play it in my house or at another friend's house. Might have more important things to do elsewhere. All in all, this system clearly fit my needs. It may fit yours. For a more affordable price compared to the 3DS, even better. I've even had a few friends (who all have 3DS's) tried out my 2DS first hand. They all said it looked nice, held comfortably compared to their systems, and wished they even had it themselves. I am beyond satisfied with this system. And that concludes everything.

Good console, even for 'older kids.'
I'm 18. Young by most standards, but I'm not exactly a 'kid,' like this is described for. It has fit my needs perfectly well, even though I'm not a very avid gamer. The lack of folding made it hard to fit in my pocket. However, I understand why it doesn't fold. The touch screen and the non-touch screen are both the same screen. This is partially why it's so cheap right now. I feel like the 3D effect would get old after awhile, and the whole feature is more novelty than a legitimate gaming asset. I've yet to be unable to play a game because of the 2DS's lack of 3D.As of the actual console, it's pretty great. Clear screen, loud speaker, good controls (Albeit odd). The cameras are nearly unusable. The lack of megapixels is no excuse for the quality shown by the cameras. They're novelty. That being said, I didn't buy this system for its cameras. I bought it primarily for Kingdom Hearts. So- for gaming, it's a great console. If you want 3DS but don't want to shell out the $180, go for this one.

and I'm happy as a clam with it
Don't let the targeted age group for this device fool you, this console is not just for little kids! I've had this console for about a year now, and I'm happy as a clam with it. Speaking of clams, the main reason why I chose the 2DS over the 3DS is because I've never gotten used to the 'clam shell' model of the DS's. I'm an old school gamer who likes to reminisce of the good old days of handheld gaming devices, before all they all turned into flip phone like contraptions. I don't need all of the fancy bells and whistles of 3D gaming, all I want is a simple handheld console that I can play up to date games on. After a year of playing on this device, I can happily say had I've had no issues with it. It's sturdy, durable and I can see myself playing games on this for many years to come! Definitely a good investment for kids and adults alike.
