Seperate filter box and pump a MAJOR Design Flaw
Update: 9/26/2017 Despite my treating this filter like a baby, making sure to unplug, then simultaneously lifting out the filter box and pump so there is no pressure on the hose where it inserts to the filter box, it has once again broken off. I have tried to buy clamps at the hardware store to re-attach, have heavy taped it etc. The tape, of course, comes apart, the clamps loosen, and dirt and leaves from the pond jam the pump and I have to take the whole thing apart to clean. This is a real design flaw Pondmaster. It is nearly impossible to NOT have a break in the hose and my koi are super active and kick up a lot of debris so I have to clean it every week. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has this issue. Though I love the filter, I won't be buying it again. I wish Pondmaster would figure this out by combining the box and pump so there is no hose between.I have used the Pondmaster filters for about 7 years now, with my first purchase being the smaller one. I replaced it two years back with the 1350 (bought at a local garden center for $130+ dollars) and this spring it broke. I know this was an idiotic moment for me, but the water was pretty darn cold early spring and I picked it up by the pump section first, then reached down to grab the filter box. But the hose broke off! GREAT. Well, it's near impossible to fix once that hose breaks, which begs the question "Why doesn't this unit have filter and pump incorporated into one box so this sort of event won't happen?" There is not a single connector out there that will help you put Humpty Dumpty back together again, I know, I have tried a half a dozen of them. So now I must buy a whole new unit for this one broken hose. NOT HAPPY. And yes, like the other reviewers, I hate that I have to weight the thing down with heavy stones so it won't float to the top when the filtration is starting to get mucky. The lesson? Make sure you pick it up out of your pond by both the handled filter box AND the pump. If you don't you risk having your hose break off at the filter box and your unit will be toast.

The fish are still alive
I put this in my koi pond. It holds around 500 gallons and has a waterfall for aeration. This pump pushes water just fine and the filter does a nice job of catching the algae and also cleans out well. I am pleased with the rate of flow. It was in the pond for a month or two before the winter set in and we turned off the pumps, but it worked fine. We had a warm couple of days, so I turned the pump on again and it ran right away, not problems at all.

I Have Happy Fish..
I just finished setting up the pond and putting the gold fish back in. Love the filter. It was just what I needed. I am using the fountain now til I get the waterfall built. It is keeping the water. Love sitting out there and listening to the water.I wasn't sure what size or kind but after research and reading reviews I am very happy with the one I got. This is about 250 gallon. I don't know for sure cuz it came out of my mom's back yard when she died. There wasn't a working filter when I baled it out. But now after a few months the fish are back in and seem to be really happy there. I have pix of the 2 styles of fountains that come with it. I like the short wide one.

Good small pond filter and spray.
Sheerness, thickness or warmth have nothing to do with this pond filter and spray. As a filter it works well and does a good filtering of the pond water.

Probably should have purchased the next more powerful pump...
PMK1350 (350 GPH). I have about a 700 gallon pond with lots of gold fish and KOI. Pump has been installed for a week. Love the ease of use and convenience. So far, it has not made a huge difference in the overall clarity of the water. But it is clearly removing years of accumulated gunk and algae. I'm cleaning the primary filter at least once per day. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's easy and takes about five minutes with a hose. Initially, using the charcoal filter resulted in cleanings too often. Will re-insert shortly. Overall very pleased.

Worked quickly and well
I had an accumulation of algae in an outdoor waterfall. After a heavy dose of chlorine and algaecide, I was left with a lot of dead particulates. This device cleaned my 800-gallon system in about 24 hours.

From black to clear!
We just moved into a house, inherited a nice 600 gallon pond.. We emptied it out, cleaned it, and put water back in.. It was still so murky afterwards, poor fishy. After buying this pump, and in less than a week, the water is starting to clear up really nice.. I can actually see the bottom of it, I see all the fish! I've had to clean the filter out once, but it's expected the way things looked down there. I hope this pump lasts for a long time, don't give up on me! The added fountain heads are a plus.. I like that I can have one style daily, and the one that shoots up when we have company over. Very happy!
