Initially, I read this in high school. It was a great short read just as I remembered it many years ago. Everyone should read this short story as there is a lesson to be learned by all.

Good short story about vanity, and selfish behavior. The story, however, should have focused a bit more on the husband's perspective of his wife's psychological, and personality disorders.

The moral of this story is not new nor will it surprise you. What makes this story great is how incredibly well written it is. I think it was Louis L'Amour who said it should be required reading for every writer. Who am I to argue with that? It is a great read and worth going over more than twice. I highly recommend it.

Things are not always as they seem. Madame Loisel felt embarrassed by her lack of wealth. She wanted to be like the fine rich ladies. Her husband and her were invited to a ball. She felt she had nothing proper to wear so she bought a new dress and borrowed a beautiful necklace from a friend. She lost the necklace and worked many years to pay for the loss. She worked hard and learned that things are not always as they seem. Beauty is within. Care for what you have. A true friend will always be there.

Wonderful short story about the trouble one can get into then, as now, through very human, but vain desires. Classic must-read.

This story is the perfect length for an evening's reading...with a surprise ending! I recommend this one if you like historic scenarios.

I read this in high school and I really enjoyed it so I got it again. The end of this story can really suck the breath out of you. I recommend it too you. This story taught me not to panic in life's situations.

Had never read this before. Short story writing at its best with a totally unexpected endings.

but a little predictable - I guessed what was coming (I'm surprised so many people are surprised by the ending), but this didn't spoil my enjoyment.
