Spark Twin Storage Bed and Bookcase Headboard, Pure White

I know the South Shore products have mixed reviews on Amazon, and to be fair I can only speak for the Spark Collection which I bought for my 9 year old daughter. She picked it out and she loves it. Also, we both enjoyed a lot of daddy-daughter time during the assembly of the bed, headboard, chest, and nightstand. Couple of things I should outline: * Having previous experience with RTA furniture is helpful. Back in college (90's) I had a job one year assembling RTA furniture 6-8 hours a day. That experience was extremely helpful here, especially considering the instructions are very detailed and accurate, however mostly visual, so knowing how to line up pieces per the pictures and complete the steps is vital. * Buy a set of square drive bits for a ratcheting hand screwdriver (I bought a cheap set including a bunch of bits and two screwdrivers in a case for $9.99 - the bits I used are worn out but it served its purpose) * Leave the power tools in the garage. Seriously. I learned this lesson many years ago with RTA furniture. * If something doesn't seem lined-up or fitting right, stop. Odds are you missed a step or have something oriented incorrectly. Backtrack. * Be patient! I used this as an opportunity to spend time with my daughter, and turns out, she was really interested in learning to basic hand tools and put things together, so I went slow and taught her as we went along. Before long she was pretty good, in fact she helped me avoid a few mistakes along the way. * Put this together where it's going to sit, and no matter what, DO NOT try to move/slide it before you put the mattress platform in. That's what holds the whole thing square. * When tightening screws (for example drawer glides) it helps to know that you should alternate while tightening in stages so the glides "line up." There is a good amount of play in them and they will not be aligned if you tighten one down before getting the other one slightly snug. * Again, GET THE SQUARE DRIVE BITS - the fasteners all have Phillips head AND square drive. But they are low grade fasteners (this isn't an aircraft, it's furniture!) and you will round out the heads if you try to use a Phillips screwdriver. Trust me. Get the square driver (I think there are 2-3 sizes used here so just get a complete set). I have included a picture.

This bed looks great and my daughter was super excited about it. It seems nice and solid and the shelf headboard is nice for toys and books. I took off one star for the following reasons: the drawers are much smaller than I thought and feel a bit flimsy in the base (had to reinforce them) - it doesn't fit as much as I thought. The handles on the drawers are a bit pointy on the corners for a kids item. There is a whole lot of space behind the drawers that is not accessible.

We bought 2 for our girls. They look wonderful! EDITING my initial review. Yes, they took a long time to put together, but they looked wonderful when they were done. About a day or so afterwards, though, the faces of the drawers ALL POPPED OFF. They cannot be put back. I've tried several time. The kids hardly touch them and, they fall again. The shelves above the bed are still good and sturdy, at least 2ND EDIT: I'm really unhappy now. I bought 2 of these. NONE of the drawer doors have stayed on. NONE. I have taken everything apart and tried to put them back together from scratch. They will not go back on. I spent a lot of money on these. Why are they not better made?

Bed is great for my toddler. The pieces aren't very strong. We have already had to glue a drawer back together. The handles are kind of sharp and we took them off the bed before they cut my kids leg while sliding off bed. Also one of the pieces had the holes drilled wrong but I called the supplier on the phone and the immediately fixed the problem and sent a new part. Overall not bad for the price but also not the greatest

Attractive. Reasonably well designed and manufactured. Made from MDF so must assemble carefully. A fair number of fasteners, though. So, that should help with sturdiness.

First off, the wood isn't real wood, it's like a mix of some weird wood particles I don't even know what to call it. It's easily breakable and the parts used for this, though make it easy to put together, you can just tell it's made from cheap materials. I had a hard time assembling this bed, not because I didn't know how, but because the parts were broken and I was missing a lot of little things. I had to wait another two weeks after I bought this for my replacement parts. I also recommend assembling it in the room you're going to put it in, and the position you want it in too. I don't think this bed will ever move unless you disassemble it and move it. I tried moving it into another room but the wood again, super cheap, looked like it was going to break. My biggest problem with this bed was the drawers. That's why I bought it, because it's perfect for a guest room that's small so you don't have to buy a bed AND a drawer set. However, the drawers don't close all the way in because the part that moves it in and out of the bed is made of plastic and super bad/cheap quality that it broke the FIRST time I assembled it. The headboard is also very not sturdy and I'm constantly afraid someone sleeping in it will have the entire thing just fall down on top of them while they're sleeping. The top piece of the headboard, if you look in the picture, is always lose as well. Just overall I would not buy this bed, simply because I think anyone buying furniture should go see for themselves what they're actually buying. Nothing is what you expect it to be.

the bed is the quality I expected mdf construction typical in this price range. easy to assemble. What really stands out for me is the customer service. One of the pieces was damaged (presumably from shipping) I called the manufacturer and they sent me out a replacement immediately. they answered the phone right away and where friendly and knowledgable. it was truly a no hassle exchange.

We did have a couple of pieces that were slightly damaged. I read a few negative comments from people and It just blows my mind that someone would assemble something like this without gluing it. Ours it fully assembled and my 12 year old daughter loves it. My only complaint was that the 360 degree picture showed it having 6 drawers. There is only 3.

Easy to assemble, instructions were clear and easy to follow, great storage for smaller bedroom and arrived faster than expected.

The instructions could have been made easier to follow by numbering the pieces consistently with the assembling instructions. Some pieces were damaged from the manufacturer or due to shipping. I contacted them and they shipped new pieces in a timely manner. Thank you South Shore.
