On loud, pleasant "Bong" sound
Good product, loud enough to be heard, good installation instructions, easy to disable, reasonably priced, quick delivery.Chime worked well, good mounting instructions allowing for a large variety of door opening types. A metal bar and resonant cavity provide a nice loud "Bong" (one single bong sound each time the door is opened). There is a magnetic actuator that grabs onto the metal bar when the door fully closes. Pulling the door open stretches a spring until the end of travel is reached and the actuator spring drives it into the metal bar. Very simple, very reliable. One feature I don't remember reading about is a simple slider that allows disabling the chime. This is a very valuable feature as there are times certain office attendees are present and get tired of hearing the chime-- so by using this slider they can easily disable the chime. If you want to quiet the sound a bit you could probably stuff the resonant cavity with a bit of paper to dampen the sound down. If you have double (independently opening) doors you will need a chime for each door. One important point -- if door sticks or weather stripping does not allow your door to shut all the way closed within a quarter of an inch the mechanism will not rearm for the next time the door is opened. This is true of most all door alarms/chimes,the door has to be able to fully close in order to reset for the next opening.

Works as advertised.
We bought a fancy electronic wireless doorbell/gong from the local big box store for the office. expensive but it worked okay but it took 3 to 5 seconds after the door was open for the bell to go off. By the time one of the staff got up from their desk and went to the front area, customers were already starting to wander around. I saw this mechanical one on Amazon prime and decided to try it. It works great! You need a cordless drill and a small Phillips head screwdriver to install it. They include the right size drill bit. Good instructions, easy to install… It took about 10 minutes. The gong is plenty loud enough and as soon as the door opens just a crack it goes off immediately. Cheaper than the fancy wireless one and it works better – I guess sometimes the old ways are better.

Pleasant, loud-enough chime
I purchased this for the law office in which I work. When the receptionist goes to lunch, between 12 and 1, I'm in the back, no one else is in the front, so anyone can walk into our office without us knowing. I'm not comfortable with that. This chime is loud enough for us to hear in the back, and is a relatively pleasant sound. The chime can be easily shut off if desired by an attached sliding mechanism, but one has to be tall enough to reach the slide at the top of the door. With our door, one has to be at least 5'9" to easily reach the slide to shut it off. No batteries, no electric. It works by a very simple magnet mechanism. I would have given it 5 stars, but it arrived without the hardware needed for a door that opens inside. The vendor sent me the hardware after I told him it was missing, but it took an extra 3-4 days, and by that time, I had already purchased what I needed at the hardware store ($3.67 + a drill bit that I had) because I didn't want to wait that long to install it. A relatively easy install; one has to drill a couple of holes and use a screwdriver.

Amazing product
Our family owns nursing homes in Las Vegas and throughout the years we would have to replace our electronic door alarms every other year. This gets expensive. I found this product on Amazon and I had my doubts so I purchased one then installed it. I was blown away it's a great product and it doesn't even need batteries so I ended up buying 12 more and after a year of use I couldn't be happier. It's easily heard from one side to the other side of the property just as well as electronic ones without the expense of them breaking or replacing batteries all the time. Size wise they are a little bit large but they work extremely well and would definitely recommend anybody that needs a door chime/alarm.

Ding, was that the door?
So the way this works, a magnet sticks to the metal door frame via a metal washer that is screwed into it. As you press open the door, the magnet is pulled down and they releases. It then hits a metal bar, the chime. The box is plastic and the chime is not very loud. If you are in a loud environment, or if you are a large distance away, in another room, it can be hard to hear. I'm a bit disappointed. If you have a quiet office, it should work out fine.

The Solution
I work at a store with a self serve drink machine located at the end of the check-out counters. My task was to have an alarm on the door. All the alarms I found needed some type of electric, that was doable, but the volume was much to high on all of them. The bells we had were not reliable enough. This provided a reliable, cheap, no maintenance solution to alarm the door. Did need a couple changes,, like covering the sound holes and mounting to align the magnets on angled doors.

Office chime
Product very easy to install - lovely chime. Only thing I would change is ability to adjust volume. Load only to person walking through door. Works wonderful in my office - GREAT VALUE!

Great product for office
This is great for letting you know that someone has entered your office. Before I had it, sometimes people would enter and I wouldn't even know it. It doesn't require electricity or batteries, it just works off of mechanical principles: a magnetized metal piece pulls as a door is opened, releases, and then strikes a pleasant sounding chime. Easy to install too.
