Excellent product. I highly recommend it
Excellent product. I highly recommend it.Update: Okay, I have had this a while and can give some better feed back on it. Here is what I have learned and by no means is this the end of me learning to use this product to the best of my and it's ability.1. If you want to use it with a DSLR, use your lightest lens and lock it down on a tripod. Weight does matter for this to work properly.2. If you are using a DSLR you are likely going to need a small ball head and potentially a focusing rail. The focusing rail helps to balance the weight of the camera evenly and the ball head helps you set-up the shot to your liking. You can pick up both on amazon cheap (less then 35.00 for both http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C3DY73S/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_12 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007L41QZG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )3. Sound quality will be terrible if you do not use the right setting (for DSLR) in the Swivl and you do not change the setting in your camera. I used it with the canon T4i and the sound from the swivl was very HOT. I had to turn down the setting in the camera to one tick mark above 0. After I set the swivel correctly and turned down the sound in the camera the swivl mic sound was great.4. Though I have not tried it yet I think, this thing would work great with a gopro. It is light enough and wide enough to get great video and if you get the gopro mic cord adaptor you would also have wonderful sound. Add to that the fact that you can watch what you are filming on our phone or tablet place on the table in front of as you film and you have the making of a wonderful robot camera man.

Part doesn’t work
I charged the Swivl and the remote my student teacher would carry to film her lessons and allow the camera to move. That remote does not work. Deader than a door nail. Not super happy since this was a pricey purchase.

SWIVL didn't include C-Series iOS Lightening Connector - so is useless for iPad
I purchased this and it was sent - but when it arrived, it did NOT include the cable for the iOS lightening device (my iPad) like it said it would include. Without it, it's literally useless. In order to update the firmware, so I can use this with my iPad Pro, i need the Lightening connector to use on an older device.I purchased this and need it for an event on July 5th, and now it seems like it will be inoperable. Totally bummed because I spent $200 to get a used device that didn't come with what ships standard with a SWIVL.

Great + Terrible = Mediocre
I purchased this via their Kickstarter campaign, so let me say that as a frequent backer on there, I'm used to being a paying beta tester and kind of view this product as such.I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the whole device - it definitely doesn't have the kind of 'thrown-together' feel that many Kickstarter-started project have. The build quality seems top notch, everything looks very well thought out, and the way everything fits together is nice also. The documentation leaves alot to be desired, being unnecessarily vague (it was unclear what the LED's indicated, etc) - but a trip to their website resolves all that easily enough. The real beauty of this device is the tracking with the remote, which works surprisingly well - it tracked me in almost all of my tests, from close up to across the room (~25ft or so). It's done optically (via IR), so the little remote needs to be visible to the base in order to operate - but I understood that limitation going in, and it exceeded my expectations on how it would perform. Switching it between different modes is done through the iOS app, which I wasn't as thrilled about, since I would rather use the device by itself. I also don't need to use it as a slide show remote, so it would have been nice to be able to re-assign the keys to perform other tasks. One of the more negative reviews commented on their customer service, but I can't speak to it since I haven't needed to deal with them yet. I have used their apps though, and I mirror his experiences, with a bit less vitriol. :) They are quite a bit less than I would have hoped for, and even for their intended purposes they're pretty shotty - which is surprising considering how polished the product actually is. Their SDK is equally poor - only being for iOS. The better approach IMHO would have been to document their bluetooth communications so that developers could interface it regardless of their platform. Their timelapse app I found to be very unintuitive, and felt like something they just wanted to add to some bullet list of features as opposed to being something even remotely functional. So, due to their almost complete fail on the software side I take off two stars from an otherwise exceptional product. At the end of the day, at the price I paid I'm more than pleased with it - at the MSRP I would be disappointed I think. The caveat being that all of my issues with it can be addressed in software/firmware, so as they address things I'll certainly update my review. If anything, I think I'm the most disappointed by it because of the potential the device has - it leaves you with this kind of 'Wouldn't it be amazing if it could do X?!' feeling, which very few products ever do because they're just not that interesting. So, if you're a professor that wants to record your talks, or you're a tinkerer that likes gadgets, then you might want to pull the trigger on this - but if you wait until they improve the software side of things, it will be a slam dunk.

Fantastic Tech Tool!!
The SWIVL is the best thing for a one-woman research team!--I've got the camera and mic all working while I'm focused on my research interviews. The SWIVL follows the participant around the room so each person being videotaped has freedom to move. Wonderful!
