Period correct repair for older vehicles
I have a 1948 Ford Coupe with a rubber seal installed windshield. There is/was a water leak in the lower corner that always dripped if we got caught in the rain. As this is an original paint car, I am very careful about working around any painted surfaces for fear of damaging the finish. I felt the chance of damaging the paint during a windshield removal was too high and I also wanted something that would be correct for the period of my car. Butyl sealant was the answer. I looked for a smaller container but had to purchase the pint can when no source for anything smaller could be found - no matter as I really wanted to do this job my self. The sealant is very sticky but easy to "tool" into the suspected leak area. I used a small wooden coffee stirring stick to trowel the material onto the outside on the gasket and on the glass. After 24 - 30 hours, I was able to trim the sealant material with an Exacto knife to achieve a look that I could be happy with. My research indicates that butyl remains pliable, which only time will tell. I've only got to find a rain shower to see if my repair is successful. As most car collectors will testify, there is rain out there and it will find you.

Messy
Worked as designed. I had a windshield installed in a 64 impala, the installer wanted to use urethane but this is the correct sealant. It is messy and took me about an hour of my time.

Definitely thick, have to see how it seals as I haven't let vehicle sit in rain since installing new windshield seal and using this sealant as the final barrier to water. Application is delicate and not sure if all parts covered.

Could not use until we tried heating up to 120 degrees so it would flow. Neither the supplier or the manufacturer knew you need to do this.

This stuff may be ugly, but it sure does work. Get in behind that rubber seal and pump it in, it will stop a leak.

Terrible Adhesive Pump
I used a similar pump for 30 years with no issues until the car lift was lowered on it. I purchased this one from C.R. LAURENCE and it would not pick up the fluid that is sold for it. I even heated the Butyl Sealant that is designed and sold by the same company. Thinking the Sun on a 80 degree day was not enough. It would not pump at all; the trigger would not move more than a ¼ inch and locked down.
