Got it for my daughter
I got this textbook for my daughter while she was preparing for her GCSE. She loved how easy it was to follow and really understood the topics.

Physics
I had a rubbish physics teacher at school, pity because the subject really interested me. So, many years later I bought this book and it's great. Explains the subject well. I'm learning as lot!

Surprisingly easy to read
As a layman, I found this book easy to read (although so far I have only read about a third). Obviously a little bit of knowledge is helpful but it does not go into any depth (and isn’t meant to).

Really good books for explaining complex ideas
With a strong Physics and Engineering background everything gets REALLY complex and mathematical very quickly when trying to explain some of the concepts. What this style of books does is remind you of some of the basic principles without maths, allowing me to talk to my kids about the things in science that I'm passionate about. Some of the topics are a little skimmed over, but to be fair they still explain the importance of the ideas. We have the Physics, Technology, and Maths books. All a great style, easily accessible and my 11YO daughter can happily browse without help as the writing style is perfect for her Harry Potter level lexicon. Across the 3 books we have, some highlights: Maths: Fourier analysis (weak explanation but conveys the message well), Group theory and the rubix cube, number theory and development. Technology: Central Heating systems, Helicopters, Lasers, The Internet, Locks, hydraulics Physics: Quantum field theory (written SO well), nuclear power and bombs, Relatviity As I said, some incredibly important topics that permeate or lives but kids never get access too until they're grown ups. These books help provide the context for amazing scientific and mathematical discoveries. Stay with me here, but I believe that scientific fields have now advanced so far into areas completely inaccessible to the lay person that a sense of distrust and knowledge elitism has overwhelmed the amazing work our human society is doing. So what these books do amazingly well is help to bridge this gap, and help any reader to feel like the topics are more inclusive to them. And this is what great writing and education is all about. (Sorry, rant over).

Absolutely brilliant!
I purchased this book as I have a huge interest in physics even though I’m an organic chemist. The book is well structured and contains everything you need to know about physics. The foreword by Jim Al Khalili is inspiring and written eloquently. I have been a fan of his for many years. He is a brilliant physicist with excellent knowledge on the subject. I love the idea of “in context” as it gives you a quick introduction to the historical aspect of the subject. I would highly recommend this book to for both children and adults alike. In my opinion it is one of the best physics books out there.

Excellent accounts of Physics through the ages
This is a great book. Although the publishers and format suggest a target audience age starting with an interested teenager, I’m a teacher and I’ve found plenty to like here. It’s not really about hard Physics, more of an account about how Physicists developed our understanding of Physics concepts in a chronological context. Very much a tale of ‘on the shoulders of giants’ I valued the opportunity to learn about these scientists, albeit briefly, as people, as characters rather than simply a name associated to a law or a unit. Little details like that are important to me in trying to make lessons more engaging, so reading it has been time well spent. If you read it cover to cover, you will find a small amount of repetition but this is necessary when creating a book that you can also dip into and the authors\editors have done a great job in respect of this compromise.

The Physics Book
What a great series of books. I simply love the way everything is made accessible for readers without any background knowledge in the subject. So far, I have a number of these books and all of them are set out beautifully, with informative illustrations and pictures. The Physics Book, which I’ve just purchased, makes a wonderful addition to the series and I would highly recommend it. I hope you find my review helpful.
