Love this - no smell, clever design, use kitchen trash bags!
As first-time parents, we were totally overwhelmed when picking out the essentials. The kid at Babies R'Us said this was one of his favorites because of the design, though he'd never actually used a diaper pail. Well, he made a compelling enough argument that we agreed and went all in, buying two of these (one for the nursery, one for downstairs)! 4 months in, we actually love these. We have no complaints at all. There are no issues with smell coming from the pail, or mess. We love that you can use kitchen trash bags in this, and don't have to buy special bags that fit the pail. The mechanism inside keeps the bag nice and secure. We bundle used diapers up, using the fasteners to secure them in a clean little ball. I think this is pretty typical, but if you just want to toss an open, used diaper in the pail, the little hatch will get gross. I wouldn't recommend doing that. The only other thing to note about the smell (a lot of people seem to complain about this) is that we have twins. So, it's possible since we're changing the pail more often the smell doesn't have time to creep out. Although, we do have two pails, which we use pretty equally. So, maybe this is basically the same as using one pail for single babies.I'd definitely buy this again, or recommend it to others!

Best containing odors and the most economical.
Best diaper pail so far. No smell. I had more expensive ones that required a specific liner, that were horrible. The cheap plastic they use to make the liners that cost $$ would never contain the odor or the liners would break. This one you can use any bag as a liner. I just use a garbage bag and it works very well. I love the design of the rotating lid that helps contain the odor, rather than just snapping shut. It also seems much sturdier than that brand that uses circular liners whose closing mechanism kept dislodging or breaking.I wish we purchased this one after wasting so much money on other brands.

Pretty Good!
I have two dogs, and I clean-up after them religiously. (I prefer to not anger my neighbors.) I recently moved from a condo (where there was a dumpster that made disposal super easy) to a townhouse. For a while, I would just drop the bags in the big trash can on the back deck. That worked fine during winter months, but once the weather started to warm up, it became less of an effetive solution. Each time I would open the lid, the stench would about knock me out. I decided to try a diaper pail. I was leaning toward an Ubbi steel pail because I read somewhere that steel pails absorb less of the odor than plastic ones, bu then I considered that I would be keeping the pail outside and it would be exposed to all kinds of weather, and steel no longer seemed like a great idea. Moving on in my search, I liked that this Diaper Champ Deluxe takes regular kitchen bags and doesn't require any cutting. After some additional considerations and comparisons, I went with it and have been fairly happy with it.Details? It would be nice if it had a foot pedal for hands-free operation, but that's hardly a deal breaker. I would also note that putting a 13-gallon kitchen bag in is cost effective and convenient, but not as foolproof as you may think. There are no obvious guides as to where to hook the edges of the bag around, but if you put them in in such a way that they overlap or otherwise interfere with the lid, the stinky air will leak out. Also, as other reviewers have mentioned, it's best to leave the handle up so that the bucket part of the lid is open, rather that closed as in the picture. If you leave it closed, then when you open it to insert a diaper or dog waste bag, be prepared for a knock-out wave of odor. All of this said, if you install the bags correctly and keep the handle up, it does a surprisingly good job of cutting down on odor. If it's being kept outside and the temperature warms up, you will be able to smell some odor when you're within a few feet of it, but considerably less so than with a regular garbage can. Finally, changing the bag is a disgustingly stinky chore - but that's going to probably be the case with any diaper pail. Overall, I'm happy with this pail.

is there a perfect one? I've tried most of them and this ...
Ahhhh, diaper pails... is there a perfect one? I've tried most of them and this is not a favorite. First, the original diaper champ is way better, looks nicer too, but they've stopped making it! I wish I could give this 2.5 stars...Issues:1. The diaper hole that the diapers flip into is small, the diapers stack up and the bucket gets stuck on the diapers after only about 10 size one diapers.... so you have to jiggle it and push the diapers down (expect it to smell)2. This one is not necessarily a defect, just not something I thought about so if you are like me this will be a "duh" moment for you. You WILL get poo in the bucket. Unless you are one of those people that came wipe all of your Child's poop with few wipes and take the time to wrap that diaper super tight, you WILL get poop in the bucket. It's inevitable... if you have already thought about this, please don't use this portion to judge my review.3. Someone reviewed and said their diaper bucket always wafted up smells. Well, this isn't exactly a true issue, but be sure to always keep the bucket open instead of face down. If you keep it face down then when you open it all of that nasty air does come out. Now, this still goes in the issues section because even if kept open sometimes the bucket does bring up SOME smells, however, minor smells when using seems to be inevitable no matter which pail you go with....4. The design isn't very appealing..... but I guess that's a personal preference.Pros:1. It's not a diaper genie! That twisty individual bag thing is awful and a pain!!!!2. It has a couple days of diapers in it and it's sitting in our living room. It doesn't smell while it's not in use (which is the main goal of all diaper pails)3. You don't need to buy special bags for it.All in all, I'm keeping it because I'm too lazy to return it, but I am kicking myself that I didn't just get another dekor. I would greatly appreciate it if you would mark my review helpful, as I hope it has helped!
