A way to get more than just money from your work
A lot of organizations talk about transparency and collaboration, but fail to get past the, "That is the way we've always done things," mindset. John Stepper lays out simple steps you can do to start changing your organization from the inside by tapping into the need we all have for community. As a long-time reader of his blog, the things Stepper writes about have helped me considerably in my career, but don't be fooled; this isn't another dry, business book. Stepper writes with such honesty and artistry that his work is just plain fun to read.If you want to improve your career (and indeed life), buy this book and take it to heart!

Inspirational read to improve your career and life.
Working Out Loud is a field guide to improve how you work and live.As John explains, WOL is more than just letting everyone know what you are doing today. Rather, you learn how to tap into the power of being authentic and transparent through the gifts of generosity, and even vulnerability.Whether you are unhappy in your current role or are just hungry to get more out of your career and life, WOL has some of the secret sauce to help you on your journey.

Recommend it
Great book. John Stepper has managed to combine inspirational anecdotes with practical guidance. I have recommended that each of my 'circle' members get the book so they can feel just as inspired. You can definitely participate in a WOL circle without it thanks to the generous free guides John shares but reading the book as well really gives you a fuller view of the possibilities out there by connecting with others and sharing generously.

WOL for greater impact
I thoroughly enjoyed reading WOL. The book takes the reader on a journey of how to make their work more impactful and meaningful and thus leading to a greater personal success and satisfaction. Even though I didn’t do any of the exercises in the book the philosophy and message that the book projects set well in me for my working future.

The exercises are simple and WOL groups are easy to start (our firm has begun them)
I've worked in the Fortune 200 space for three decades. And seen/led/participated in many "change initiatives", "re-engineering" , reorg, TQM, {fill in the blank} efforts. Most failed or produced a mediocre result. Working Out Loud is the first simple, crisp and cogent approach to how individuals in large organizations can begin to take control of their own careers and destiny I've seen. Most of these books (have read many) either approach the problem solely from the organizational design level or from the perspective of individual change. Working Out Loud links the individual to the group and the group to organizational results that benefit all three parties. The exercises are simple and WOL groups are easy to start (our firm has begun them). At a higher level what John has done is provide (minus a lot of philosophical preachiness) a first of kind roadmap of how individuals should think and act in an economy that is increasingly dependent on webs of relationships, contributed IP, reciprocity and less so on the highly structured organizational design of traditional corporations. I'd highly recommend, whether you are an executive manager or a recent college graduate (or anything in between)
