Nikon D700 (Expanded Guides)

Great as User Manual
I'm rating this many years after its publication, but I just got a used D700 and wanted more detailed information about its features. This book is beautifully printed on quality, thick, glossy paper with excellent color photos. It is basically a superbly done illustrated user guide that can entirely replace the content of Nikon's original user manual, although I suspect this book covers the material in a much better wa and with more explanation. The book does provide a lot of extra information that the original user manual did not, but in general all the camera features and settings are described clearly and settings pointed out with photos showing the location of the various buttons and switches, with general descriptions of what everything is for. However, it doesn't really go into detail about WHY you would choose one particular setting rather than another. I had to look elsewhere for that kind of information. However, I do find this book to be a valuable asset to using my new D700 and I'm glad to have it.

Great for newbies in Nikon!
A must if you have the camera, especially for newbies.

Nice cover, but no substance.
If you are looking for a guide book that will give you all the ins and outs of the D700, this isn't it. There seem to be many features on the D700 that aren't even mentioned in this book. One glaring example, there is no information whatsoever on the command mode for using Nikon flash off camera. I have dumped this book and am looking for something better. If I could give this book less than one star, I would.

Very helpful resource
Great book with excellent illustrations and well written information. The author has given solid information about the basics of the d700. This book would be helpful yo beginners and intermediate users of the d700. I do not think it would give much aid to advanced users.

Proof reading a must Mr Sparks
I have mixed reviews on this book. It is clear allot of cut and paste from a D3 manual. Because there are typos all over. On Page 34; the Main and Sub Main pictures are wrong, It incorrectly references the D3 on page 49 as well as others. On page 54, the instructions for "Viewing photo Information" does not match the menu on this camera. I am still working hrough the manual, but it is clear to me that this was not proof read very well. Looks like I will be buying a better one at Borders up the street from me.

Surprise - have so many mistakes as a Guide Book!!!
1. It took me whole afternoon to find out why my D700's "Main Command Dial" didn't work! Because this "Guide Book" made a mistake on Page 34 wrongly marked the "Main Command Dial" and "Sub Command Dial" pictures!2. In this guide book, Mr. Sparks always mentioned "D3", but it is a guide book for D700.Recommendation: Mr. Jon Sparks, could you please carefully write a book? Especially it is a guide book. How can you guide the readers if you didn't get the correct idea? Also could you please spend a little time to review yr book again before publishing it? Quick money is good, but at least you need to chance "D3" to "D700" before you copy sentences from yr other books?

This book is a great companion for a Nikon D700 SLR owner.
I don't have the patience to spend hours and hours figuring out cameracontrols and this Expanded Guide helped me to quickly learn all the basiccontrols as well as its custom functions, picture settings, white balanceetc. things that are too time consuming to figure out on your own.The Guide is beautifully put together and very easy to follow, not tomention that it is small enough to carry around in your camera bag.Good job Mr. Sparks

It's ok
Gave it 3 stars as it is OK. Howver, there is not much in this book that you cannot get in the manual.

Five Stars
Many thanks

As expected
A more accessible version of Nikon's own manual, with the occasional feature that isn't featured/explained particularly well in the latter

Save your money and get David Busch's guide to the ...
Save your money and get David Busch's guide to the D700 instead. Over five times as large and more in depth and covers everything and I do mean everything. Spark's book is just a rehash of the Nikon manual that comes with the camera.
