my review
so this dvd is in pretty good condition, meaning the film was transferred to disc decently. i wouldn't call this dvd quality, but its just under dvd quality. in the beginning of the film it starts of a little grainy and blurry, but slightly, it than clears up pretty nicely once you see the dinosaurs. so dont get scared when the first 30 seconds or so are a lil off. it is a real old film and to my knowledge it wasn't digitally remastered. But i believe they used a really well kept film master, so in the end its a step up from our old VHS tapes of this movie. The sound comes in very nicely, there is english audio, spanish and french audio as well, theres also english for hard of hearing and french and spanish subtitles. I wish they had included the original theatrical trailer for this film but thats ok, the special features i haven't seen and really aren't the reason we are buying this classic film. i had this vhs tape back when i was 5, and am now 30 and just seeing little foot yawn just before going to sleep on his mothers back gave me such a nostalgic feeling and happiness. i'm glad i got to own this once again after all these years, decades even. so for those saying the video quality is horrible, please ignore them. yes, the film is old, but its been kept pretty well over the years, i am satisfied with the quality of the film. if anything its like a perfect vhs tape quality film. **UPDATE** i saw the entire film the other night, and i have to say the quality really held up. I assume they must of used a VHS tape master. It held up great, even on my 42" LED TV. there were no errors of any kind, video or audio. everything was great. Looking back at the film, it seems there may have been a couple of scenes that just didnt make it to the theatrical version. I have no proof of this, but there are a couple of scenes in the middle of the movie that point out that there was prolly an idea to make the scene longer but for whatever reason either took it out or it never came to pass. but it was still a great movie from beginning to end. i had forgotten diana ross sung the ending credits. the special features arent really all that for the adult buyer. they are lil kids games. one such feature shows how to navigate a remote controller for the youngin's out there. this is a great purchase, ignore those idiotic buyers that are hating on it for not being in widescreen. HELLO this movie was released WELL before widescreen was even popular and as such was made for 4:3 screens. the colors are good in this dvd.

A moving, beautifully scored, and occasionally heartbreaking journey of friendship and survival.
*The Land Before Time* is a timeless animated classic from Don Bluth, George Lucas, and Steven Spielberg. It's a moving, beautifully scored, and occasionally heartbreaking journey of friendship and survival. However, the available Blu-ray release from Universal is a bit of a mixed nest, particularly for dedicated fans and cinephiles. ### 🎥 Video Quality (A Mixed Bag) **The Original Film:** * The movie itself remains a masterpiece of traditional hand-drawn animation, showcasing Don Bluth's lush, vibrant color palette and striking, detailed character designs. The epic scale of the prehistoric world, set to a masterful James Horner score, still holds up wonderfully. **The Blu-ray Transfer:** * **Disappointment for Purists:** This is where the release generally falls short. The common sentiment among reviewers is that the transfer is **not a full, fresh restoration**. Instead, it appears to be an older high-definition master (or even an upscaled DVD) that has been repurposed for Blu-ray. * **Grain and Clarity:** Many reports indicate the image is often **overly grainy** and sometimes lacks the crystal-clear detail you would expect from a 1080p presentation of a film negative. The colors can occasionally look dull or inconsistent compared to the film's theatrical look. * **Aspect Ratio:** The film is presented in its original theatrical widescreen aspect ratio (1.85:1), which is a positive over older "full screen" versions. ### 🔊 Audio Quality (The Strong Point) * **Excellent Sound:** The audio quality is typically reported as **clean and full**, a noticeable upgrade over older home video formats. The film's iconic and emotional score by James Horner sounds fantastic, with excellent clarity and separation, which elevates the emotional impact of the film. ### 🌟 Special Features (Bare Bones) * **Minimalist Approach:** The Blu-ray is generally considered a **bare-bones release**. It often includes: * Sing-Along Songs (from the *sequels*, not the original movie). * Sometimes a very simple "Dino Activity" or "DINO-Stars" feature. * **Missing Content:** Fans often lament the absence of substantial special features related to the original 1988 production, such as interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, or the film's theatrical trailer. This classic deserves a comprehensive retrospective that this release fails to provide. ### Verdict: Should You Buy It? | Rating | Category | | **⭐⭐⭐ / 5** | **Overall** | | **⭐⭐ / 5** | **Video Transfer** | | **⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5** | **Audio Quality** | | **⭐ / 5** | **Special Features** | If you are a casual fan looking for the **best available quality** of the movie right now, the Blu-ray is a minor improvement over the DVD, especially in audio. However, if you are a collector hoping for a pristine, fully restored image and a wealth of bonus features, this particular Universal Blu-ray release will be a disappointment. The film's enduring quality carries the release, but the technical presentation is far from definitive.

Great movie for kids
Grew up with this movie. So good. Good messages, friendships and overcoming hardships while young. Does have sad scene but the overall message and movie is super cute. Highly recommend if you have Dino lovers like I do. No sex, language, sexuality, violence is mild (T-Rex fighting another dinosaur)
