Readers who have never before read a book on the solas will find this slim volume to be of great value. Others readers will be sure to come away with a deepened understanding of why we trust the Bible as our ultimate source of authority, and how we are saved by faith alone, through grace alone, in Christ alone, to the glory of God alone.An added benefit of this book is an appendix that cites writings from early Church Fathers that touch on the basic tenets of each sola. Author does an excellent job outlining the five solas in an easy read format, including references and scriptures to back the statements. Book is also only 170 pages or so depending on if you can't the appendix and such. Well worth the read...I would put this on a recommending reading list for sure.

I hate to say I bought this as a joke....but it is a very deep study and amazing book. My hubby told my daughter she could not date a boy who did not know the 5 solass' lol

Van Dorn provides an insightful examination of the 5 Solas of the protestant reformation, what they meant then and why we need them now. He has a pastoral heart for their practical application in our daily walk. He has deepened the appreciation for these bulwarks of the faith in this old PCA elders heart, even if he is a Baptist. The appendices provide additional wealth of information, including links to some hymns based upon them.

Would like to have seen the five sola's in different chapters. This would have made it much easier to discuss them with others without spending lots of time looking for specific ideas.

I've never read such a thorough and profound take on the five Solas before! They came alive with such beauty and meaning in this book. It is a theological treatise with a devotional quality and that is a tough thing to accomplish!

Excellent sermon format to explain the intricacies of the doctrines. Lots of Scriptural references which are needed to substantiate Biblical bases of them. Bought a couple to give away because it is easily understood but makes sense of what is basic doctrine.
