Grout Removal Tool, Caulking Removal Tool, Grout Cleaner, Scraper, Scrubber Brush, Tile Joint Cleaning Brush, Remove Grout or Cleaning for Tile Joints and Seams or Corner

This is one of several tools I used to remove the grout from our bathroom floor. It is particularly good at scraping off the remaining bits of grout still clinging to the sides of the tile. While it is possible to attack grout with this tool alone, I found it easier to remove the bulk of the grout using a multi-tool fitted with a grout removal blade or a handheld grout saw (similar blade, but powered by elbow grease). I found I had to be even more careful with this tool than the even my battery powered multi-tool. It is very easy to chip tiles with this because of its sharp edges and the fact that the tungsten-steel alloy it is made from is incredibly hard.

I don’t know what possessed me, but I used light brown grout on my tub surround about 20 years ago. It never looked good. So I finally decided to remove the old grout and replace it with white. I tried a couple of diamond tipped blades on my oscillating saw, but these grout joints were particularly narrow, and I just knew that I would crack tiles, or at least chip off corners if I kept it up. So I ordered this simple carbide steel grout scraper. The head consists of four different blades with different profiles, from short with a wide angle to long with a sharp angle. So generally when I’m using it, I do a shallow pass on a grout line with a wide angle blade and then a deeper pass with a long sharp blade. The blade stays sharp. There was no noticeable dulling between the start and finish of the tub surround. The handle is comfortable and the tool is well proportioned so you can exert the right amount of pressure. To put it simply, I’m an old guy (73) and this tool reminds me of the good old days. 😄

I used this to help with the grout removal of a tub/shower 4" tile (1/16th" grout line) installation, to help get to the spots the rotary tool couldn't reach or didn't clean well enough. Make sure you wear gloves, as the oxidation from the aluminum handle will blacken your hands in a short time, and you could transfer this to the tile or grout you're not removing. The handles are a bit long and it would be easier to control if they were shorter. But, all in all, it's a good tool, and pretty tough. I purchased 2 of them just in case it dulled, and I'm not seeing that happen. The 3 different sized cutters is a very useful feature, especially if your original tile installers weren't judicious about uniform tile spacing. And be careful to keep the cutter in the grout slot, as it will scratch your tile if you accidentally scrape across one. I would recommend this tool- it made the job easier, for sure.

It's great for getting into corners. It has 4 different profiles on the head so you can find one that fits the project well. I haven't used it on grout yet, but it's done a good job on old caulk and paint drips. You need to experiment a little in finding the right angle to hold it so that the cutter gets a good bite. Different materials might need different angles. Definitely a worthwhile tool to have in your arsenal of various scraping tools.

It's okay for removing caulk or silicone, but not grout. Easy to use. Decent for the price.

I only have a medium size shower floor to remove the grout and this tool made it easy... with a little elbow grease it easily scraped out the grout in between our porcelain tiles. The 1/16" grout line was no problem. I used both "pointy" ends... the wider angle first to start the cut and then the narrow angle to gouge deeper into the grout. Angling the tool left and right to shave down the edges of the tile that had grout "down in there". Was dreading the DIY job but this made it easier than expected. What's to like about this tool is that it is sturdy and effective, although it does require a fair amount of elbow grease. If all your surfaces are completely flat, this tool will work well. However, if you need to remove grout from, for example, where your bathroom wall meets the tub or shower wall meets the floor, this is not the right tool. The 4-in-1 head makes it impossible to achieve the proper angle for scraping, thus you end up with only partially removed grout, and your perpendicular surface damaged. With all the grout dust coming out, it wasn't possible to see the irreparable damage I did to my tub edge until it was too late, so learn from my mistakes.
