Super easy
Bought this as my really old laptop stopped reading disks and wanted to play a few old games. This worked great just plugged it in and I steered the disk no set up required have had no issues during use even when I’ve forgotten it’s plugged in to the laptop and knocked it a bit during use. Lightweight, cable is easy to clip back in

Did exactly what I needed, and more
I bought this because both my new car and my new laptop came without a CD player.I still wanted to listen to the same CD albums in the car, but needed to convert them to MP3 to put on a USB thumb drive. With no CD drive on modern laptops, I bought this so I could start converting my rather large CD collection (I know, I'm living in the past), and it really hasn't disappointed me.It worked straight out of the box with absolutely no problems or complications - true plug and play.It rips the CD's really quickly, and with free audio ripping software downloaded from a reputable source online, it's making the process so easy and painless. But there's an extra bonus that I wasn't expecting. It's also a DVD drive too - nice. The USB cable is hard wired into it and has a recessed area underneath to hold it tidy and out of the way when not in use, and the whole device is so thin that it now lives permanently in my laptop case.I just don't understand why laptop manufacturers have stopped including CD/DVD drives in their designs these days.

Doesn't work
I purchased this item used it once thought it was great then had gone yo watch a film. But would not work did not want to read the disc and was making a horrible noise I have tried several disc's but all is the same.

Good, well priced external DVD
Does everything I want, which is basically to read DVD's or CD's. Be aware this is DVD ROM read only. The writable part does not write to DVD discs. It sounds the same as a laptop internal DVD drive if anybody needs to know sound levels. Rob :)

You get what you pay for
So I brought this just short of 6 months ago. The lead is very short and that was the first problem, trying to place it right. It wasn't particularly fast as stated but did the job. Suddenly about 4 weeks ago it began to play up. and started rejecting the CDs. I had to insert them 3 times before they would be accepted. In hindsight, I should have read the signs. This week it has stopped working altogether. I have tried everything; troubleshooting and tried it in other laptops but no use. I'll be contacting the manufacturers, to see what they say but I'm not hoping for much.

It does exactly what it needs to.
When I built my PC I assumed I wouldn't need a disc drive in there because, let's face it, who uses discs for anything anymore. But when, for example, you replace your wifi card and you need to install software for the new one, you can't just jump online to grab the drivers you need so being able to use the installation disc is actually pretty handy. And that's where something like this comes in. When plugged in it was instantly recognised by my PC. It read and ran the install disc I needed it to without any issues, and afterwards I could just unplug it and pop it into a drawer. Perfect. My only gripe is that the integrated USB cable is pretty short. That's fine with a laptop or if you have a USB hub to plug into, but can be a bit awkward to use with just the standard USB ports on the front or back of a tower unit.

Hit or miss model!
The first one of these external CD trays I bought was so good I decided to buy another one. This one however has a very noisy engine which cannot be silenced. So disappointing! And yet it comes from the same batch as the other one that was just as good. How do you explain that? I should have sent this one back. it was obviously dodgy.I can recommend the type or model however, but I bought a different one for my next purchase. A great shame!

Perfect for ripping a cd collection.
Wasn't expecting much with the price in mind but this works perfectly. Rips and burns cds fast and efficiently. Light weight and easy to use.
