Did exactly what I needed, and more
I bought this because both my new car and my new laptop came without a CD player. I still wanted to listen to the same CD albums in the car, but needed to convert them to MP3 to put on a USB thumb drive. With no CD drive on modern laptops, I bought this so I could start converting my rather large CD collection (I know, I'm living in the past), and it really hasn't disappointed me. It worked straight out of the box with absolutely no problems or complications - true plug and play. It rips the CD's really quickly, and with free audio ripping software downloaded from a reputable source online, it's making the process so easy and painless. But there's an extra bonus that I wasn't expecting. It's also a DVD drive too - nice. The USB cable is hard wired into it and has a recessed area underneath to hold it tidy and out of the way when not in use, and the whole device is so thin that it now lives permanently in my laptop case. I just don't understand why laptop manufacturers have stopped including CD/DVD drives in their designs these days.

Doesn’t play CDs
Not very pleased I invested in this, I am yet to play a CD on it, it doesn’t seem to recognise CDs. I have a chromebook, when connected it did not play the movie, instead took us to a list of files to be opened. Fed up I connected it to my smart TV, doesn’t seem to work. I am not an IT person, hence taking it to my sibling to see if she can get it to work.

Easy to use, but design isn't the greatest.
I got this so I could still access the piles of DVDs I have but also be able to upgrade my PC tower to something a bit more modern. It's ok, the USB3 lead is integrated into the body which means it packs away very neatly, but it also means you are quite limited as to where you can set it up as the lead is quite short. I didn't find it to be particularly fast so I am doubting that it's true USB3, but then the text and grammar on the box were definitely revealing! It wasn't very expensive and obviously you get what you pay for, and this is perfectly fine for the tasks I am using it for, it works quickly and easily, but it needs a well-powered USB3 port to work best. The eject buttoon is in a sightly iritating place so that when you push the draw in to get the disc in, you can't help almost push the eject button so it's a bit fiddly. Nt a bad unit, it's well put together and has worked fine so far.

It does exactly what it needs to.
When I built my PC I assumed I wouldn't need a disc drive in there because, let's face it, who uses discs for anything anymore. But when, for example, you replace your wifi card and you need to install software for the new one, you can't just jump online to grab the drivers you need so being able to use the installation disc is actually pretty handy. And that's where something like this comes in. When plugged in it was instantly recognised by my PC. It read and ran the install disc I needed it to without any issues, and afterwards I could just unplug it and pop it into a drawer. Perfect. My only gripe is that the integrated USB cable is pretty short. That's fine with a laptop or if you have a USB hub to plug into, but can be a bit awkward to use with just the standard USB ports on the front or back of a tower unit.

Does not write..read only !
I bought this to burn some music onto CDr's but this drive is only recognised as a CD reader, not a burner. I'm on Windows 10 and it says it supports windows 10 but clearly it it either doesn't or is faulty. There seems to be a number of these similar drives on amazon with exactly the same issue, just read, no write. Unfortunately it seems there a lot of fake reviews (paid for reviews) which suggest the drives are fantastic and work perfectly..unfortunately this is not the case. So if you want a drive that will read CD's / DVD's then this is for you, for writing..it's definitely not !

Doesn't work as a burner/rewriter
I was very happy with this product at first. It worked straight out of the box, with no need to install drivers. I used it to copy music CDs to my computer, and it was perfect for that. However, when I tried to burn some files to a DVD, I found that this does not work as a burner/rewriter, even though it is described as this in the listing on Amazon. I'm giving it 3 stars, because if all you want is a player, this is fine.

Perfect
I haven't had anywhere to watch my Lord of the Rings DVD's as my new laptop doesn't have a CD port. This product has alleviated my worries! I am an avid fan of the series and this product is a life saver. It connects perfectly with my laptop and it plays the whole film uninterrupted - and it is very easy to use. The wire connecting it to the laptop isn't very long but again, that is a small price to pay for the incredible quality of the product. I would highly recommend to anyone.

Super easy
Bought this as my really old laptop stopped reading disks and wanted to play a few old games. This worked great just plugged it in and I steered the disk no set up required have had no issues during use even when I’ve forgotten it’s plugged in to the laptop and knocked it a bit during use. Lightweight, cable is easy to clip back in
