Does this set come with a felt MyPlate, or do you need to already have a felt board to use these cut outs?

what is the size of the MyPlate? How big of a felt board would I need to place this on?

Hi Peggy! The set comes with a standard plate size to demonstrate “portion sizes” for food groups. The 50 food portions are all felt and reflect typical food portion sizes. I used the set to teach preschoolers. Most classrooms will have felt boards available to use which are typically about 24” x 14” x 1” so plenty big for this set. You can find numerous options online or go the “cheap” route as I did and purchase a piece of foam board and peel and stick felt squares to cover the foam board in the size you desire. Michael’s or JoAnn’s carry all of these items. I also made a felt version of the Very Hungry Caterpillar using empty Pringles Chip can. I had the children select foods from different groups to poke into his mouth (made with slit cut in plastic lid): I used cheap poker chips to stick on the round food stickers for caterpillar food. The My Plate set was a big hit for the children. It is durable and reusable.

Can kids use these with their pretend pots and pans as play food

The food is flat. It is not three dimensional like pretend play food is. If your kids don't care that it is flat, then they can stir up a pot of pretend felt soup for you or fry up some fish. Then have them serve it on the correct part of the plate. Search online for Stone Soup activities. They would go great with this set.
