her voice
The cd's are quite good considering they have been corrected from old recordings. I will listen and enjoy the old bygone era. I will be purchasing the others of hers.

If You Love Her Music, What Are You Waiting For?
If you enjoy the music of Lee Morse, I can't imagine why you wouldn't want to buy this two disc set. Lee Morse hasn't enjoyed the various CD releases that singers such as Annette Hanshaw have and so you really do take what you can get if you want to get your hands on this incredible woman's music. It is a shame that a few obvious songs you expect are not included, though some rare treasures are, so it depends what you've got and what you're after. Audio quality wise, of the lot, the jazz records come across with the best sound (and for me personally, they come out on top for sheer musical enjoyability...the Southern numbers are good for displaying the range of her ability, but don't really send me like the jazz and torch stuff -- and the audio quality is most obviously lacking in them, due to their acoustic nature). For a listener used to records of this age, the quality won't be intolerable (by golly, we've heard worse!), but of course, it is not great and not clean. That is the nature of the technology used to record, I understand, but more effort could have been applied to give a higher quality experience. At the end of the day, I am a fan of Lee Morse so I of course recommend this CD. I can't say whether her style will suit you if you are blind buying, so check her out first just in case. For fans, if you want a good chunk of her songs and a varied offering, go for it. Maybe your copy will sit next to your stereo, like mine does!

10 Stars out of 5
To put it simply, this is the greatest DVD of the First and Greatest Pop Singer ever. Most of the songs include Lee Morse "Yelping." You cannot say that you have ever heard music until you have heard Lee Morse yelping. It is a transcendental experience.Lee can sing a funny song, a cute song, a torch song and a sad song like nobody else. Call it country-jazz-pop. It is Lee. Any song sung by Lee becomes Lee's song. The only problem is that you may fall helplessly and passionately in love with Lee. How do you tell your lover/mate/friend that you have fallen in love with a woman who died almost 60 years ago.

No "Blue Turning Grey Over You"??
Just don't get it and that's the reason for the 3 stars. I just hope a Part II album comes out soon for this artist that includes all her best tracks. Please please. I'm waiting. Hopefully it will include the above mentioned, as well as "I've Got Five Dollars" and "Mood Indigo."

Just really liked her voice
I first heard this singer on Vol. #1 of Torch Singers. Just really liked her voice. Great to hear here sing other songs, mostly of her own composition. So surprising by her yodeling! Packaged well for safe delivery. bk

Try something different
I can’t remember how I found Lee Morse but it was an eye-opener or an ear opener. She is a very accomplished singer with a variety of styles, ballad, blues, jazz, and she sings with a lot of feeling and humour and pathos. Look for her on YouTube where she sounds even better. Dance around in your bones and you will never be the same again.

Songbird who flies like the Dickens
I came across Ms Morse as a fleeting reference in Barry Mazor's book "Meeting Jimmie Rodgers" where he situates her in the 'blacks, whites & blues' melting pot that was the 1920s American music industry alongside such artists as the said JR, Bessie Smith, the Mississippi Shieks et al. But compared to most of these compatriots she seems to have had the head start, recording first in 1924, just a year after Smith and a good handful of years before many other now better known 20s names. If you like Bessie S you will go for LM no question -- she can be a great blues belter when she wants to be, which is most of the time on this set. And what of her more idiosyncratic vocal swoops... well they compare very favourably (may even prefigure) the coloratura style of Duke Ellington protégé Adelaide Hall. So all in all she's quite the innovator and just a flat-out great singer by any standard. The 50 tracks here comprise about a quarter of her lifetime output and for once you wonder if more really wouldn't be more were Bear Family to get her in their sights and do a completist 8 disc box (though mastering couldn't be improved one jot: Jasmine's sonics here are a knockout).

Lee Morse has a wonderful voice and should be better known
Lee Morse has a wonderful voice and should be better known. The best track is If You Want the Rainbow, You Must Have the Rain, which I first heard at the end of the last episode of Boardwalk Empire and should be a standard.
