The pump attaches 12 inches from the vertical pole. I poured the concrete post with the mounting sleeve in it 12 inches on center from the edge of the above-ground pool and it works great. **Q: Can it be mounted on a deck that surrounds an above ground pool?** A: I do not know. We mounted it on the deck of an inground pool. **Q: What are the batteries used for this lift? Can they be transported as cargo in a plane?** A: There are NO batteries used in this lift, there is a handle that you move up and down to pump hydraulic oil into a jack that raises the arm. **Q: How deep must the anchor hole be and how do you secure it? Cement?** A: We bored through the deck and then some. Approximately 10". It's a manual pump, so no worries about the battery running out at an inconvenient time.
