Seems to be high quality
Working great on a 2000 GM panther block marinized by mercruiser. I came to the conclusion that if you have a gm block from either Volvo, mercruiser etc.. and your alternator looks like this, chances are good itβll fit. Such a great price, hope it lasts, honestly if it goes out in a few years, probably will just buy another. I is ed 6 gauge wire for a short run directly to the starter solenoid and capped off the smaller original feed wire. 14 volts without a problem at allUPDATE-failed within a few months out of the year warranty. Had to call a tow in outside of the harbor, couldnβt risk losing power inside the marina. Nope I wonβt be buying another. You get what you pay for sometimes.

Alternator for Boat
I have installed this alternator in my 1999 Volvo-Penta 5.0 GL motor. The results were excellent, there is good voltage at idle speed of 600 rpm, like 14.3V if I recall, and the alternator doesn't get as hot as the defective one that it replaced. Every wire connection in the new alternator was exactly as in the legacy unit that it replaced. Although the OEM unit was painted charcoal, I opted not to paint the new one because doing so will diminish its ability to dissipate heat. Alternators can be tricky to diagnose, and the marine environment can also create its own set of problems, like rust. A good battery can hide a bad alternator, and a bad alternator can kill a good battery. Replacing the alternator takes about one hour. Make sure not to over tighten the belt, as that will be bad for the alternator's bearings. The product arrived fast, and was packaged with great care.

Exact Form, Fit, and Function
Bought this marine alternator to replace the one that went dead in my 1996 Four Winns Horizon 200. It has the OMC/Volvo Penta 5.0L V8 FI motor. Engine model number is 50FAPNCA. I used this engine model number to search the ol' Google for alternators. Of course the original part number had been superseded/replaced numerous times. So using the current part numbers listed as "aftermarket" I went shopping on Amazon and found this one. Most of the OEM part numbers were like $350-$400. This one appears well made and bolted right up. Only need to connect 4 wires from the old alternator. Not real good identification of the terminals on this one. The orange wire that finds it's way to the positive battery terminal connects to the biggest terminal on this alternator. It's also the wire that has the rubber boot, and my rubber boot fit right on it. The black wire that finds it's way to the negative battery terminal isn't marked at all. I used the screw from my old alternator to attach the black wire. The last two wires, which are purple, and are simply spliced together anyway, go to the excitation terminals. Doesn't matter which one goes where since they are really the same wire. Then just bolted it back up and presto, puts out 14+ volts when reading with my battery/charging tester. Have seen other reviews about arriving damaged, wouldn't work, or that it burns up belts. I suggest you check the belt tension on your old alternator before removing it, then adjust that same belt back to the same tension when you replace your old alternator with this unit. I'll post if I have any more problems. Taking boat out this coming Fourth of July Weekend 2022!Update July 7th, 2022 - Took boat out and I swear this new alternator fixed a lot of problems on my boat. Apparently we have been running the boat on just batteries for quite a while, causing the voltage to dip below 12 volts. This was causing the stereo to drop out and either the ignition or fuel pump to drop out intermittently. It's also possible the old alternator had some sort of internal short and was dragging down the batteries when we hit bigger waves, as this is when the motor would shut off for about 2 seconds, then kick back on. All that is gone now and this alternator is putting out great power/voltage! Well worth the $100.

Easy swap - works fine
Made in China but so far so good. It appears to be the exact same product that I bought a few years ago at a marina. Came with wiring instructions and it was easy to swap it out. I recommend a before picture just in case.

Perfect replacement for Volvo Penta 4.3L V6.
I was reluctant to purchase this alternator due to the 2 black triangle things in the picture of the alternator but figured what the heck, Amazon has no hassle returns. It turns out those are removable plastic bolts that are required connection terminals for my application, and they worked flawlessly. This solved my trouble of poor performance issue that I tracked down to low voltage at the fuel pump.Make sure you have proper belt tension when installing any alternator. Too much tension and you risk damaging bearings, while not enough tension will give you intermittent squealing and fluctuating voltages. One way I judge this is to place a straight edge against the pulleys and belt then press down on the belt - proper tension is about 1/4" - 1/2" deflection.

Exact Fit for a 1999 Sundowner 205 with 5.0Gi VP
Alternator came in quickly and was an easy install. Be very cautious to not overtighten the load studs on the back. Hopefully it lasts for quite some time. Priced almost half as much as local marina part lists.

Not Bad...
Bought and installed for my Volvo Penta 5.7gs a little over a year ago. The installation was relatively easy however the pulley wobbled slightly and I had to remove and adjust. The unit worked well for the price but after a little over a year I need a replacement because of corrosion. It would probably be fine for freshwater but not marine application.

Fit my 3.0 mercruiser 1987
Good alternator my only consern is that it come with all bolts and it was mising the one on the ground terminal and the washer was in the platic bubble wrap I hope the bolt its not inside the alternator but I run it for maybe 3 hours and always stay at 14 volts. And I just made two small wires to connect my boat wiring and I had to place two small washers behind the tensioner braket.

Good part
Direct fit for my 1997 3.0 Volvo penta. Canβt comment on lifespan and durability but it runs a strong 14.8 volts and itβs a match to the original
