Its a plain steel bar with a mild knurling. Every cable bar I have with rubber grips ends up coming loose and spinning freely, messing up my grip positions, or sliding horizontally along the bar. Simplicity at its finest. Does appear to be hollow, but that doesn't really matter for a cable attachment.

Bought this based on picture and was expecting a steel, relatively thin bar with knurling. However this bar is actually aluminum (lightweight) and definitely larger in diameter than your standard steel EZ curl bars. It grips well and it not to rough on the skin. Pleasantly surprised with it luckily.
