You can do it!
Kohler makes exceptional products and they support the people who maintain them. A simple reality is that many (no deference intended) “authorized” repair people also don’t qualify as rocket scientist. Meaning that you can save money and do the work yourself. High quality companies such as Kohler make products that are repairable by anyone with reasonable repair skills; such is the story with repairing these faucets. The Kohler’s design is simple, quality and easily repaired by someone with a reasonable familiarity with tools. Our bathroom faucets are easily 10 years old yet they look and function like new. In my repair case, they make only one valve extension that ins up being larger than the original. The “magic” that fixed my problem was that you need to remove the retaining screw located in the top of the extension that came with the original faucet. I could have chosen to cut the top of the new extension to fit (like I did in the beginning) but you still left me with the original valve extension. I ended up using the original extension but choosing not to return the one I ordered. This was a reminder to myself to work smart and not to over think the problem, especially if you have a Kohler product. They’re built to last for decades so think smart. There are also distributors like Lowe’s and Home Depot who can be great resources for direction and insuring you have the right part for the project. It took me 3 weeks to fix something that should have been a one day project. Well the pandemic limited me somewhat but I can’t blame my choices on someone else. Hope this helps.

Here are some additional pictures
Good quality product. The only irritating thing was that they only post one stupid picture. Even so, I made sort of a blind purchase, hoping it would be like I'd imagined it. It turned out to be exactly what I needed. But here are some additional pictures to help fellow buyers. It does have a hole all the way through from end to end, which helped to screw it to the existing stem with a longer screw. The female end is bigger as you can see in the pics but I made it work.

Misleading Product Description
My dictionary defines an extension as "The act of extending or the condition of being extended". The male and female ends are not matched on this stem; it should be clearly labeled as a "transition" rather than as an "extension". In fact it is rendered entirely useless as an extension due to its different sizes. It undoubtedly has a functional use if changing to a non-standard handle, but in terms of fulfilling the product description, it is worthless.

During the installation of my new faucet, i accidentally broke this stem. However, I was able to replace it quick with this one. Worked well so far.

As advertised!
Yes, very happy. It’s the first one that actually matched the description! Most of the time I order brass, and they send plastic - this one actually was brass.

Warning: This is an extender and an adapter, not just an extender.
This is a good-quality piece, but it's not described well, and it's not what I needed. Look closely at the review that includes several pictures of the exact shape and dimensions of this product. That's information that should be in the official product description but unfortunately isn't. I bought this because I needed a stem extender. I realized after I got this "extension stem" that it's an extender AND an adapter. It changes the diameter of the stem. That meant the adapter I have for my shower handle (Part # 1018647) couldn't fit onto the male end of this extender/adapter. I think you can buy yet another piece (some kind of sleeve) to correct the diameter problem. But I chose to return this and get the Kohler 1073881 instead. I liked that piece more not only because it's more straightforward but also because the extension length it had was closer to what I needed. This piece is pretty long; it was more extension than I needed.
