Saved my data from MacBook Air (Original) SATA LIF SSD HDD
SABRENT USB 3.0 TO SATA/IDE 2.5/3.5/5.25-INCH Hard Drive Converter With Power Supply & LED Activity Lights (USB-DSC9)When used with the SATA/USB 3.0 Adapter (link attached), I was able to connect the drive to the Adapter, connect the Adapter to the SABRENT USB 3.0 to SATA/IDE adapter, then finally to my MacPro. I did have some trouble at first, because I did not hook it up correctly. Check my images (uploaded) for the proper set up.Basically, using the SATA/USB 3.0 adapter (sold separately), I hooked up the HDD to the super tiny ribbon cable. Then, you use the power adapter to plug it into the small chip interface. From there, you hook up the regular SATA cable to the chip; this plugs into the Sabrent adapter. I powered it all up, then connected the USB cord into the MacPro, and it was recognized. One thing you must be careful to do, is to plug the tiny ribbon cable in the correct way, and line the metal pins up correctly. It took me several tries to do this, because I have never worked with this type of HDD before. The blue surface (opposite the pins) on the ribbon cable need to be facing DOWN, and the tiny flap on the HDD interface needs to be facing UP. You have to gently wiggle the cable into the slot (it's super super small) and close the little flap. Like I said, you have to align the pins on the cable with the pins on the HDD--it's possible to get them offset.I was able to transfer all of my files and recover my data; also, I was able to securely erase my drive.

Be careful how you insert the ribbon cable into the ZIF socket on the SSD
It worked perfectly for me once I figured out which way to insert the cable. If the SSD is from a vintage MacBook Air, the blue side of the ribbon cable goes up. You have to be extremely careful to line up the contacts on the cable with the connector contacts on the SSD. Having them slightly off or not pushed in far enough will make the connection fail. Once I got everything lined up, it worked like a charm.

Can't verify it works...
...but I can verify this:1) working USB2SATA went up in smoke after attaching this device2) used another USB2SATA (yes dangerous), which didn't go up in smoke, but didn't see the attached drive either (and had the pin-side oriented correctly, albeit super tight fit and difficult to seat correctly)3) early Macbook Air logic board was replaced and drive worked when put back in (and all files still there)side note: Micro SATA Cables uses USPS, so don't pay for expedited shipping (e.g. we paid for two day and it showed up 7 day)So no mystery why I give it one star.

I could not plugin
I could not plugin into the socket of the SSD because the plug was so soft like a tape, that when I tried connecting into the socket, it folded like a cloth

With it I Could extract all the data from my mid 2009 mac book air SSD
I ordered it on Friday with expedited shipping, the item arrived the next day. I needed it because my mac book air motherboard died and I wanted to take the data out of the SSD drive. I could make it work and get all my data the same day, it did what it was supposed to do!My mac book SDD drive is a toshiba THNS128GG4BMMA. It has a 24-pin connector just like this adapter (warning, a 40-pin case/adapter would not help here !)As other reviewers said: on the adapter, the blue ribbon needs to face down, and on the SDD it is the opposite, it needs to face up, so that when it is plugged the two devices face opposite directions. You will have to remove the original orange ribbon from the mac book disk by pulling gently; note that the ribbon metal connectors face down. Be careful to align well the new ribbon, it is narrower than the enclosure, so it could be off left or right. I had to try again a few times, but it worked. You also need a case for SATA disks or a sata to usb adapter if you want to read that through USB. You need to plug TWO things to the adapter: the SATA data ribbon (the smaller one) and the SATA power supply (the larger plug). It came with no instruction so Amazon reviews were very helpful!

Four Stars
This device has worked well for me, although I haven't used it as frequently as I thought I would.
