Not sure how the hell Viltrox pulled this off, but they created a real gem with this lens. It's seemingly well made, being mostly metal (as far as I can tell) and quite substantial feeling. It's also quite heavy, but not enough to make an A7-series body feel unbalanced. AF is fast, generally quite accurate, and quiet. It does tend to hunt a bit in lower light situations, especially when stopped down a bit, but it's not a huge issue in most cases. Image quality is a lot better than I had expected, especially in terms of sharpness in the center of the frame. Wide open, it's acceptably sharp...but stopped down to f/2.8 it really gets super-sharp. Even f/2.2 is noticeably improved over f/1.8. Color rendition looks fine to me, but I don't pay a lot of attention to that sort of thing. Vignetting is noticeable up to about f/4 (or maybe 5.6), but it is not egregious and is easily corrected in post processing. Chromatic aberration is surprisingly well controlled, even at maximum aperture.I bought this instead of the Sony 85mm, and I'm damn glad I did.

After watching several Youtubers recommend this lens, I decided to purchase it. It's been a great addition to my portrait business! Sharp and fast with great color reproduction. Also, it's not too heavy. It's become my go-to lens. There's also a new software upgrade the make this lens even faster! (F1.8 to F1.6).

Yes, I reluctantly gave this lens a shot..pardon the pun, and damn...I am truly impressed with the results. I have a A7III and was using Tamron for Nikon adapted glass (which worked fine...when I would adapt anything but a single focal length (Prime Lens), it would take one shot then freeze. So, I decided to invest/try this dedicated lens and see its quality. Results?? WOW!! I am SO loving the images, crispness...great low light ability and the cost is so very inexpensive!

This is a surprisingly good lens. Great image quality and performance of auto focus. The only thing to be aware of is that the firmware of the lens occasionally makes it a little finicky (e.g. it isn’t immediately recognized by my Sony a7iii). But this doesn’t happen often and it’s easy to fix by just taking the lens off and putting it back on.Overall a great lens, especially for the price!

This lens is my go to for portrait photography. Its sharp & the colors this lens produces is amazing. A friend recommended this lens and I would have never thought this lens could produce great images like it does. Using this lens on my Sony A7iii and its truly one of my favorites lens so far.

I have been so excited and expecting to receive this highly-recommended lens for portraits. Unfortunately, I gotta return it. 1st of all, the lens hood has a crack near the white spot in photo 1 as delivered, but I could accept it because it is a piece of plastic. Disappointingly, the lens was heavily flawed since the inner motor stopped working after a one-hour test. As photo 2 showed F. had no points, which means the aperture did not operate. I might be the unlucky customer, but I would want Viltrox to have a greater Quality Check department before sending out the products.

This is a great lenses. A good value for the price and it’s take decent pictures.

This is one of the sharpest and cleanest lenses I have purchased for the money. I was highly surprised at the quality of the images this lens and my Sony A7R2 produced. Great product.
