The Kershaw Blur Tanto Serrated proves the ideal folding knife for tough jobs including hunting or fishing, emergency rescue and tactical engagement. The blade’s partial serration allows clean cuts without shredding and enables easy cutting through fibrous material like rope, webbing and even seatbelts. Made of high-carbon, heat-treated, Sandvik 14C28N stainless steel, the blade provides corrosion resistance and amazing edge-holding capabilities and is DLC-coated for increased hardness and strength. The Tanto blade permits greater force for tactical piercing through any hard material in both normal and emergency circumstances. The handle is made of black 6061-T6 anodized aluminum and includes Trac-Tec inserts, adding extra grip for outdoor tasks and performance underwater. The Blur comes equipped with SpeedSafe assisted opening for quick one-handed open, a liner lock to hold the blade open during use, and a reversible pocketclip for versatile carrying capacity.

Great knife and my first carry. Made the right choice!
So I have never really owned a pocketknife or carried one. I basically wanted a pocketknife that would have some utility and also possibly for defense that was legal carry within my state. After pouring through dozens of knives and reviews, this one kept coming to the top.Exterior: The feel of the knife closed it very rugged and tough. The outer grip is textured it what feels like heavy grains of smooth sand coated in a rubber paint. Excellent grip and no slippage when held in the palm. The metal is cool and feels only moderately hefty, but just the right weight to feel confident at tasks. The design of the exterior is functional and looks very nice in flat black. I almost bought the olive drab version but decided to save the $10 dollars and get the black one on sale. On edge, the width of the casing is a slim 1/2"... So pocketing it is not a problem. A minor thing, is that the clip for the knife is pretty tight when inserted into a pocket. It might be overly tight imo but one thing for sure is it won't be lost if you use the clip. I have seen that others have modified and reversed the clip which is something I may try.Action: Opening the knife is fairly smooth. However, if I had to be nit picky about anything it is that it can take some force to flick open one handed. The tip of your thumb can be rubbed a bit raw from open and closing if you use your finger nail and thumb tip. After further experimentation, it seems to work best comfort wise further back on the thumb near the first digit where the folds of the skin are. I may try and bevel the points where you flick the blade out, as they seem a bit pointy. The motion is just a bit forward and outward and it snaps right open. Closing the blade might be a two handed affair. While you can do it, it might be risky as it takes some force to the blade closed all the way.Blade: I am not an metallurgical expert, but the metal feels excellent. As others have mentioned it comes razor sharp (missing some forearm hair as proof!). This is not a toy, by any means and should be treated with healthy respect. I love the look of the blade, being a middle ground between elegant beauty and tactical appearance. The curve of the top of the blade is great, and the point ends like a razor.Summary: This is a awesome knife, and I am very pleased to carry it as my first pocketknife. The look and quality is 100% where it needs to be, with only two minor quirks in some of the function. (pocket clip and thumb points) But nothing to stop me from recommending this to others.Look no further and get this made in the USA knife!

Excellent quality knife; great grip
I purchased this as a gift, but it's so nice I very well may end up keeping it! The build quality is top-notch, with a solid feel. The grip is excellent - I can keep a firm grip on the knife even if my hands are wet. The blade came razor sharp. The speed safe opening is a real treat to use -- works great! It is a bit more bulky than the Leek version, but the heft and grip make this far more useful as an all-round knife. The Leek is more pocket-friendly, but the smooth grip can be hard to hang on to.I have the black version and I think it looks pretty stylish. I was initially going to get the red one, but after looking at the black, I'm glad I went for the option I did.Excellent quality knife that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good quality blade that will last for years.

Not bad, but not perfect
The knife, as so many others, is designed for a right handed person. Although it has thumb studs on both sides, the clip is designed to be against your fingertips, face down, in your right hand, as your right thumb opens the blade. With your left hand, the clip interferes with your thumb reaching the thumb stud, and your fingers have nothing for "traction" for the fastest opening. This could QUICKLY be rectified if they would simply tap the holes on the other side and allow the user to change the clip to left hand orientation. As to the rest, the blade feels solid, the action is smooth, the body feels "substantial", and it is made in America.

Great tactical steel!
I carried a Buck 110 folding hunter in my pocket and a KA-BAR USMC fighting knife on my LBE 30 years ago in the jungles of Central America. For the concrete jungle I now inhabit, this is my point-defense. I have purchased three of these so far. The first was lost in a move. The second was lost when persons unknown smashed my passenger side window in a "secure" parking lot and stole it from the glove compartment. Now, I never leave it. That's how much I love it.The material quality and build design make it near indestructible. The pocket clip makes it handy. The speed that it can be drawn and opened with one hand, on the fly, makes it a very lethal weapon, should one ever need to deploy it in anger. Highly recommended.

Fantastic
Wanted to wait at least a week to see how well it would hold up under my normal use and just wow. Came sharper than any other knife I have purchased and holds this level very well. I was really wanting something with some sort of locking mechanism because I would be using this as an Every Day Carry and work knife so I didn't want it jump open in my pocket. I was worried at first but after a few days, no worries. It would take a hell of a lot for this thing pop open unintentionally, but opens smooth as butter the second you need it. Grip is most comparable to a softer coarse sandpaper that makes it comfortable to grip and durable enough for rougher activities. The coating on the blade is a "soft"? gun metal gray that is very aesthetically pleasing and hasn't shown any type of wear so far. Very affordable and functions like a dream. Can't say enough good things about this knife. Would purchase again in a heartbeat.

Well-made and sharp knife
I've become a Kershaw fanboy: this is the second Kershaw knife I've bought for myself out of four total. (They're nice enough my wife wanted a couple as well, especially when she found out they come in pink.) This one I bought for the tanto head on the blade. Already it's proven useful punching through thick tape and cardboard, plus it fits very comfortably in my pocket, so chalk this up as another great Kershaw for the collection.Note that the Speed Safe mechanism here doesn't have the flipper pull option that some other models do. Instead, you press on the thumb stub on the blade itself. Still just as quick and reliable as the other Speed Safe version, though.
