First off don't get discouraged, I went almost a full month without getting a single bird in the trap. I tried moving it to a new location, under a bird feeder where there was some food on the ground already. I then put some fresh seed in it and after 2 more days finally got my first bird. The wrong type of bird but it was a start. I have 3 bird feeders. I stopped putting food in 2 of them to see if that might help. I finally got 2 sparrows in 1 day. So that proved to me the trap does work but maybe it's more about how you set it up.I went on to try letting all the bird feeds run out of feed and kept fresh food in the trap. I started getting a few sparrows every few days. I noticed that many times they went in one side and right out the other side. So the opening that is closest to the edge of the cage I put some sticks in the way. They can still get around them if they try but it's not as easy. It seems to cause them to panic a bit and when they turn around they see the opening into the large part of the trap. I started getting about 5 sparrows a day. At the most 8 sparrows in one day.I noticed it started to decline a bit with me just putting food in the trap only. So I started putting a little bit in the feeder above the trap. This seems to work best and the rest of the birds can get some food too. I caught 146 sparrows in 45 days. It seems once you get about 5 birds in the trap it's less likely more enter. I am now only getting about 1-2 a week, also keep in mind the time of the year also matters. From what I hear winter is best but so far early summer was best for me.Hope this helps someone else from what I learned so far.

I bought this trap to catch sparrows so that they would not bother my bluebird nesting box. I’ve tried sufficiently for more than a month and I haven’t caught anything but a chipmunk. I’ve tried all sorts of”bait” but this does not work to catch house sparrows.

Birds can easily got out

The media could not be loaded. First off this did not come with instructions I flipped the cage both ways. The way in the video is the way to place it on the ground. After looking at it it makes since. And don’t have bird feed at any feeders. So the trash birds will come to this. I put feathers and seed string things sparrows like. I had several attacking my purple Martin gourds. The first day I caught two sparrows the next day three. So I’m going to continue to leave it out: when I catch one I trim their wings. Put it back to draw in more. With a small bowl of water. When you clip their wings it keeps them from flying high and breeding that breeding season no bird will mate with them. So if one gets out the wings are trimmed. When I had the cage flipped over opposite of the way in my video a female sparrow did find the way out in a few hours. So I suggest keeping it how I have it in the video with the exit not at ground/floor level. I need more time to see if any escape this way. That’s the con about this trap no latch door to close just like a sparrow escape room some may find the way out some may not: it was half the cost than others. So for the price for me it’s getting the job done. So I’m glad I got it.

It had sharp wires sticking out, and I thought if the birds poked it in their eye would be cruel to the birds. So I returned it.

Absolutely wonderful was catching 10 to 15 in a day could not be better worth the money

Not a single bird entered the trap. I will have to modify the trap before I'll be able to catch house sparrows. The entrance channels with long wires seem to be inhibiting the sparrows to go into the trap for the food. Now, it could be that there is too much food in the woods and fields, so a better analysis will come this winter.

Don’t be confused by the other reviews the entrances obviously go down, there’s no perch for a bird to land on so down is the only way that will work sparrows aren’t gonna hover to try to get in. The trap will work sitting on the ground under a feeder. If the grass is kept short, but better is a platform to set it on. I used a stone slab from a sink cutout set up on stakes so it didn’t kill my grass under it. Sprinkle some seed in the trap and around the entrances caught 5 sparrows on the first day. Sparrows aren’t the only thing that can get in so be kind and put a sunshade over the top of the trap and water bowl in it when you set it out. Is this the best designed trap I’ve seen or used no but price an automatic trap and this one becomes more attractive. Yes an occasional bird escapes I can live with that. It’s a matter of economics if your passionate enough about getting rid of annoying sparrows buy the more expensive better designed automatic traps if your interested in lessening the population, but not enough to drop $150 is then this trap a good alternative. Removing birds is a matter of a gloved hand reach in catch the one you want and either release or …. Oh, a hard impact with the ground can be facilitated with one hand, leaving the other free to prevent the rest from escaping. Otherwise you probably need two people to effectively empty the trap.
