Coffee delight!!!
The Coffee Toddy has looooong been my coffee making preference. The product's claims that this is a "superior coffee making method" are, in my experience, absolutely and completely true.Make no mistake: this is not as convenient as other coffee making methods: this takes more time (12 hours) and effort (dumping of grounds down the garbage disposal or into the trash) than my back-up method, which is single-cup brew, using a cone, filter and boiled water. But it's worth it to get coffee that is drinkable without cream and sugar if you choose. It creates a smooth, delicious cup of coffee that is far superior to the bitter, acid-packed average cup o' Joe you get with any of the hot water brewing methods. Also, once you have your concentrate, you boil some water and pour and you are good to go.I NEVER make a full toddy. Altho the instructions say you can add a pound of coffee to the container and then fill to the top with cold water, my experience has always been that doing so creates a spill-over mess. Nine cups of water fills the container to the very tip-top, and makes it difficult to tamp down all of the grounds in order to wet them so that the cold-brewing method is successful utilizing ALL the coffee. Instead, I use 3/4 of a lb. of coffee grounds, and 7 cups of water. No muss nor fuss that way. Also, ALWAYS have an extra filter and plug. The Toddy is useless without them.

Updated: Leaks... are fixed! Design of plastic container no longer problem. Changed to 5 stars
Update:They exchanged the container with no questions asked. I mentioned the negative reviews on Amazon, and they said that they had redesigned it to be thicker. I measured with calipers and they increased the thickness from 1.5mm to 2.5mm. In the "before and after" photos cracks are clearly visible in the old one and not a problem in the new one. Since they stand behind their product and fixed the design, I have changed my review to 5 stars.Original Review:Love the convenience of being able to brew a lot of delicious coffee all at once. Irritated by the manufacturing defect that is obviously affecting a lot of people. Getting a replacement within the one-year warranty period just requires proof of purchase, not shipping back a leaky container, so at least that is good.Customer service tries to blame you, for their defective product, by the way. I promise I did not do any of the "no-nos" listed below to my second container after my first container leaked. The brew containers may crack if the stopper is pushed in too hard too often. To remedy and keep the brew container from cracking in the future, we recommend gently pressing the stopper into place and turning it a quarter turn to seal. Also, we recommend removing the felt filter with your hands instead of using a knife or other sharp utensil from the underside. You can also use a straw or chopstick if you have those items available. Finally, we do not recommend washing the brew container in the dishwasher as the high temperature environment while good for sanitizing, can cause the area around the stopper hole to become brittle and crack after time. Following these tips should prevent the issue from reoccurring for you.

The Cold-Brew Champs
We were bleeding edge Toddy adopters, and just treasure the low-acid, delicious coffee that it makes. We've drank surely hundreds of gallons, over two decades. And that's about how long it took for my brewing container to get retired, after many cracks and lots of glue. No complaints, Toddy. That's a heck of a value in the world of cheap things. Happily bought this replacement and look forward to the next 20 years.

Yes! This is the extract!
Trying to eliminate a it of the acid from my husband's coffee, I searched about for a toddy system that seemed reasonably priced and well regarded. I actually bought a newly-contrived expensive system from an online company that you've probably heard of, supporting ideas of individual designers/manufacturers, but had to return it, as the "coffee" extrac was the color of very weak tea. Too bad; it was rather attractive! Remembering that my mother had a toddy system MANY years ago, I came back to what I think of as "the original." Basic, kind of industrial looking, but steady and sturdy. I bought ONLY the coffee/water receptacle (not the base), and ordered two filters separately. It fits handily over the top of a wide-mouth mason jar when draining, and that is what I use to easily store the extract in the refrigerator.Using the review of another, I use 12 ounces of ground coffee and 7-8 cups of water for a first, 12-hour soak. I find it a little difficult to assure that the grounds all come into contact with the water, so I typically give it a light stir or two once or twice during the 12 hours (being careful not to tip it, or to dislodge the plug!). After draining, I refill the seemingly spent grounds with another 5 cups of water for a second, shorter soak. I end up with at least two quarts of extract, which my husband proclaims to be fine coffee. (I drink my own coffee prepared differently, and am much more of a coffee lover than he.) He uses a bit and mixes it up into some concoction with other things, and this system has met our needs very well.

Semms identical to my original
I love cold brew and used my last bucket for over a decade. It finally became brittle though.I use a County Live cold brew system. It uses mason jars and the toddy jar was very thin. It worked for many years though. The county line system uses the big mason jars which can be bought anywhere so you can make several batches and just swap the top when you switch jars. Why I use this white bucket and the toddy filters (don't buy generic toddy filters), is because the County Line systen has a lot of fine coffee powder that doesn't get filtered out.Mixing these two systems is easiest to clean, fastest to filer, prolongs the life of the white filters, and allows me to make a batch a day so I can have a stock pile or have plenty for friends.Note, I use a cup of coffee and water it half way after it's done soaking.
