    Excellent quality for the price

I bought these to replace a pair of cheap Chinese resin pedals that had fallen apart on my old cheap bike. I wasn't optimistic about getting another set of resin pedals; I figured Aluminum would be the ideal buy, since they were more durable. However, I decided to just get some temporary replacements since there was no point in putting nice pedals on a crappy bike. I was pretty surprised when I received them. They were much denser and had more heft than my old pedals. They featured recessed reflectors, a strong construction, and excellent 'teeth' that grip my boots like claws when I ride. The threads were well machined and it installed smoothly and tightly. They're also softer and won't do any damage if the bike falls over, which tends to happen with my loose kickstand. Overall I was very pleased with the purchase and probably won't be buying metal pedals after all. For eight bucks, you can't do much better.Update 8/03/11 - I recently bought more of these to replace the dying rusty pedals on an old Schwinn road bike. I know that it's typical to get clip pedals or harnesses, but I think that for anyone doing casual, commute, or even toured riding these are perfectly acceptable. The threads have some sort of bluing or painted finish that will allow them to resist rusting (something my old pedals lacked). In retrospect they are somewhat heavy, something that pro riders probably want to avoid, but seriously my Varsity weighs like 40 pounds and a one hundred gram weakness compared to some 80$ pedals doesn't concern me. Then again, I wouldn't care even if it was my 18 pound LeTour. These have good teeth, are heavy plastic and thus won't ever degrade, and have good reflectors included. I think that if you're trying to bring a bike back to life and just want some inexpensive pedals, these are a great buy, and I'll continue ordering more of these whenever they're needed.

Not bad. And hard to resist given the price

I had these pedals for over a year and close to 4000miles. I bought them with intention to upgrade to fancier pedals, but every time there were other interesting accessories to add to the bike. I mostly used these pedals in a city commute, but they had also seen gravel, dirt, rain. I rode a couple of 60mile rides on these and pedals were adequate. Sometimes in the rain or with flat sole shoes I wish they be grippier. As other reviewers mentioned, the bearings are not the smoothest ones, but they are on par with some of 20$ flat pedals you can get in bike shops. I never opened them or lubricated the pedals. At the end my bike with these pedals got stolen. They are not the best pedals, not even very good. But given the price it is hard to avoid them when I need pedals for a new bike. I am buying another pair and I plan to use them temporary on my new bike, until I get clipless.

The most basic of pedals useful as replacement parts on an inexpensive bike

*by J***D on Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2012*

My husband bought these pedals to work on a bike that is being donated to a poverty stricken area. He wanted something inexpensive yet durable as once it leaves here parts and repairs will be a problem for the recipient. He chose this set as they were very inexpensive and he found them to be quite suitable for the intended use. He specifically said they were easy to install (vs some other pedals) and though he would not use them regularly they were good for the 'Wal-Mart' style bike he was fixing up to send with the charity (he basically was given a few bike frames and asked to 'please help').He wanted to give them 4 stars, because they just aren't super nice, but I had to go with 5 stars--they are inexpensive yet good for the job needed. He will buy these again for the next bike he rebuilds (hoping to have 4 ready to go by the end of February).JTG
