Traditional pop singer Eydie Gorme carved out a place for herself in several areas of entertainment, from the mid '50s to the mid '70s, she consistently scored in the pop charts. This 2 CD set covers Gorme's period with the Coral label and some early ABC Paramount work. The Coral tracks include the upbeat number "Chain Reaction". All the Coral tracks and many of the ABC Paramount recordings are available on CD for the first time. Included are Eydie's early hits "Mama Teach Me to Dance", "Too Close for Comfort" and 'I'll Take Romance".

Musical Gold!
I purchased this album for the very rare "Frenesi". I was absolutely delighted with all the tracks, it had a 50's pop sound that any oldies' lover will enjoy!

The beginnings of a great career
The first CD here features tracks that Eydie recorded for Coral between 1952 and 1955. They include her only hit for Coral (Fini, an American top 20 hit in 1954) and four duets with Steve Lawrance, to whom she got married towards the end of 1957. Eydie made some excellent recordings during this period, mostly avoiding familiar songs, the most famous oldie here being Tea for two.The second CD features Eydie's recordings for ABVC-Paramount in 1955 and 1956, beginning with the track chosen as this compilation's title. The tracks here include her entire debut album for the label. This CD also includes several A-sides of singles, but only three of them (Too close for comfort,, Mama teach me how to dance, I'll take romance) made the American pop charts. Most of the tracks on these early recordings are ballads, though the tempo picks up here and there. They provide clear evidence of Eydie's talent, but whereas some singers peak at the beginning of their career, Eydie went on to bigger and better things. This may not be the best period in the career of Eydie Gormé, but there's plenty of great music here.

The Early Eydie Gorme
This double set from Jasmine begins with one disc devoted to her period with Coral Records from 1952 and ABC-Paramount 1956 - 1960.From the very first track 'Tell Me More' you can hear the that the lady has always been one hell of a singer. Listening to this now it comes asno surprise she won a Grammy in 1967 for her interpretation of 'If He Walked Into My Life'.These were the pop songs of her early recording career and as usual you find that she always gave of her best no matter how trite the song,Eydie has great fun with 'Climb Up The Wall' 'Uska Dara' and 'I've GottaCrow' but it is in the ballads she excels.Side 2 has 9 of her early ABC Paramount singles to open with plus her first ABC-Paramount LP 'Eydie Gorme'Fantastic buy and only three Coral sides could not be found to make the set completeDrew Blackburn

Amazing Talent at a Young Age
This collection of Eydie's early work is a testament to her talent. Even at such an early age, Eydie showed the potential of being one the most talented entertainers of our time. From hearing this young voice, it is clear why such legends as Steve Allen, Frank Sinatra, Irving Berlin and Johnny Carson respected Eydie as being a "singer's singer." Of course, Eydie has only gotten better with age just like fine wine. It just doesn't get better than a Gorme version of an American classic.
