Hand Applique With Embroidery

I am happy with this book; however, I would have liked more projects and less beginner instructions. One-half of the book is instructions which is good for beginners. There are 3 projects for flower applique blocks and one project for a quilt (center of quilt is shown on front cover of book). Quilt is 75x75. I do hand applique using the buttonhole stitch and I do not believe I can adapt the buttonhole stitch to these projects. These projects are geared for needleturn applique. The projects are very nice. She does a nice job of embellishing with embroidery stitches and some beadwork.

I am not a "hand sewing" person... but this book perked my interest. Beautiful photos, many technique tips, and then projects that move you through baby steps on up to really big leaps! I am enjoying my stitching time, even if it takes me longer than the author says it should take, but I count that off as being my own personal problem, lol.Yes I would buy it again. Yes I am learning a lot. Yes it is written and illustrated well. ... and if I ever get tired of the book, I just may cut out the photos and frame them for my wall!

I didn't find a lot of new information in this book although the author is very talented. There were a few tidbits I learned. In any event, you can't enlarge the example photos on a tablet as they are blurred in the electronic version. So you might as well buy the hard copy and use a magnifying glass for any detail as the kindle version was useless in this regard.

Sandra Leichner does such beautiful work and her book has inspired me. I am now motivated to look at the small details on my own applique creations and bump them up a notch (or two). In addition Sandra Leichner added details to the background quiliting part of her projects.I loved this background detail so much I ordered a book on Trapunto by machine. Although it is doubtful I will ever create an art piece with such elaborate detail and beauty as Sandra does I love this book!

The author, Sandra Leichner, has written an inspirational book about applique. This book is probably not for beginners. However, I think beginners to advanced sewists will all be captivated by the applique projects pictured in the book. The author takes applique to the next level by combining applique techniques with embroidery and quilting techniques. This is a book I can use for a long long time because it has specific advice on fabrics, threads, and techniques.

I remember seeing the original and just staring at this quilt for about 10 minutes. So, when I saw that the author had written a book, I had to get this. This is a great book to see how she approaches doing a quilt, and the care she gives each and every one. This is a book you will pick up several times, and not read once and put on a shelf.

This is a lovely book with good ideas and skills advice for the stitcher who wishes to add applique to her skill set, or to improve her use of this technique. Even the accomplished embroiderer will take something new from this book.

So beautiful and such clear directions! I will definitely use this as one of my go-to references! It has so many inspirational ideas for quilts!

Hand Applique is a very good book for anyone who enjoys applique but wants to add something a little extra to their design it gives lots of ideas no embelihing the sewing it does not even have to be applique the embroidery could be used in many forms of sewing.

This book is written with such clarity which makes it easy to follow and to execute the various methods of applique and embroidery. Love it!
