Nightblood (The Frostblood Saga, 3)

Nightblood is Elly Blake's thrilling conclusion to the Frostblood Saga! I started this series what feels like ages ago instead of three years ago when I picked up Frostblood at my first BEA! Now the series draws to a conclusion as Ruby, Arcus, Kai and their friends will have to defeat the Eurus, the powerful and evil god.Things for Ruby have been rough ever since she is housing the Minax from the throne she had to destroy. It's a daily battle trying to keep the thing in check, Ruby almost feels like she's losing herself to the darkness residing inside her. Then there's the fact that Eurus, her father and a god who's completely evil is about to let loose a slew of Minax on the world and these monster like creatures would possess everyone in the world and there would no longer be freewill. So Ruby and her friends have a lot to fight for.But with any final book, there still comes a whole mess of problems and conflicts that the characters need to overcome. Even conflicts among each other. While the matter of the love triangle between Ruby, Kai, and Arcus had been resolved, Ruby made her choice very clear, Kai isn't ready to give her up without a fight. Despite a few moments here and there, I was kind of glad that there was no continued battle for Ruby's heart. Kai is just being overly flirty Kai.I had forgotten how much I loved Ruby and Arcus together! The romance between them was just so sweet. It's been too long for me to remember their first encounter, though I do know it wasn't a love at first sight kind of deal and honestly those are the best kind! I love when the romance takes time to build and if there's a bit of animosity between them at first, it's all the better! Lol.Ruby is dealing with a lot when it comes to the Minax inside her and to say that its messing up her life is a bit of an understatement. It was a little dark at times seeing Ruby being overtaken by this force that they have yet to figure out how to overcome.The book is well-paced! I was eating up the pages, I had set a low goal for myself each day because I didn't think I'd be able to manage much more than that. Imagine my surprise that I pretty much doubled my goal each day! The words were just flowing off the page and I was eating them up! It was an incredibly amazing read! One of the things I love about fantasy so much is the magic! The magic within the world I'm reading about and the literal magic of the reading experience!The ending itself was very ideal! Elly took me by surprise three-quarters (or so) of the way through, but like Ruby, I'm stubborn through and through. In the end, it really was the perfect kind of ending and I couldn't have been happier about it! I cannot wait to read Elly's next book! She's definitely an author I will be following from here on out! If you're a fan of fantasy and magic relating to the elements, I highly recommend this one! It has all the right fantasy elements, plus the action, humor, and romance a reader could want! It's pretty much a perfect read and it's most definitely a GREAT read!Overall Rating 5/5 stars

**No spoilers were harmed in the making of this review**"You are our only hope"Hey guys, so I finished Nightblood by Elly Blake, which is the third book in the frostblood series, and I think the last? Anyway, I breezed through this novel because it was easy to read. Little unnecessary descriptions, dialogue, smoothly dropping into the story and figuring out what was going on. Of course by now you are already familiar with the characters and their situation and their future direction. It is just a question how everything will unfold. ANd it unfolded alright. The last bit of Ruby's journey was alright, had some danger, some romance, etc. But honestly...I think I was just reading it to see how everything ended. I was not truly invested. If I had been, I would have definitely cried or cared more. But I was just like "meh" and continued reading. NOw, I dont think this 'meh' attitude was from the book entirely. I think it was just me, waiting so long that I got detatched from the characters, and it was hard to reattach. It was a good book, do not get me wrong. Good story, good journey. But not mindblowing. Not pulse shaking, earth rattling...It could be, or it was, I just, could not experience that. There were some parts I really liked, mostly the one's involving the effect of powers and such, and when the characters raged at one another, lol. Other than that...it was just a story, there was not much character development or growth really, since that occurred in the first two books I guess. Of course, she doesnt end up with the guy I want. Because OF COURSE, that NEVER happens. I swear....why must I always get attatched to the underdogs and just hope they have a chance. UGH. So I am kinda pissed about that? But oh well, the author gonna do what the author is gonna do. So yes, nice enough story, the journey was fair. Not really that many twists and turns, but I do not think it was that kind of book. Least everything ends up how the author wanted it to end up, lol. Uh, I do not really know what else to say. Yes, Ruby struggles alot in thisbook with her self, thoughts, feelings, as usual. Kai deserved more page time but did not. Arcus was a protective dick. Not much else I can say...though Ruby with the darkness were some of the best parts of the book, tbh. **sighs** Okay, I might add more later...Remember, this is all my opinion, if you want your own, read the series. Great fantasy series I recommend to anyone who is into a unique fantasy experience good for fans of a court of thorns and roses

I liked this book a lot. The story, some twists and altogether very good writing.I thought the main character could have been a bit “stronger”. Her internal battles about just about anything were a lot, even in the first book.I also thought the storyline could have been even deeper with more of a backstory to other characters

Words cannot express how much I enjoyed this novel. I’m the kind of person who can get bored with a book really easily, stop reading with the intention of going back to it eventually, and never picking that book up again. So, with that being said, the fact that my attention was held unflinchingly throughout the duration of this book, never once requiring me to exert effort to not skip pages, was a very unexpected but welcome surprise. This was the first time in a long while that I have stayed up all night to finish a book because I couldn’t wait until the morning to see what would happen next. If you’ve read the description but are still on the fence about whether or not your wiling to spend the money required to purchase this book, just do it. The plot was interesting, the characters endearing, and the writing was superb. This is not a purchase that you will regret. Overall I give it a 10/10 would recommend.

This is very good book. I really loved the first 2 books of this series so it is possible that my expectations for this book were too high. If the first 310 pages were at a little faster pace I would have easily given this book 5 stars, but these pages were just a little too slow for me. The last quarter of this of this book was amazing I could not put it down.I do understand why the book was done like this, there are subtle changes in Ruby's character. It was a clever idea that even though Ruby is narrating the book there are times when as the reader I was not sure if how much influence the Minax was exerting.This is great ending to the series. I would have given this series 5 stars. This book is a good conclusion, slightly slower then the other books, but building up to the main event that defiantly did not disappoint.

Third and final volume in the 'Frostblood saga' series of young adult fantasy novels.Book one was 'Frostblood'. This is not a jumping on point. So new readers start with that. Regular ones, read on.Recommended reading age would be fourteen and up, thanks to some mild adults moments.This runs for four hundred and thirty seven pages. It has three parts. Forty chapters and an epilogue. It brings the whole story of this series to a complete close.There is no map at the front, which I would have found a little bit handy. But that's only a minor complaint.Following on from the end of book two, Ruby and Arcus have to stop Eurus from opening the gate of light, because otherwise the world will be in serious trouble.Frost and firebloods are both allied against this threat. But Ruby is the key.She and Arcus so want to be together. But she has the Minax to control. Can she remain herself, or will she give into the darkness inside her?It's been two years since I read book two, but this was amazingly easy to get back into. Although I didn't remember all the characters very well, I soon got used to them again anyhow, so I was turning pages amazingly quickly.It again has great world building, and it is very nicely written. The prose is smooth and holds you, and there's good detail that is never too heavy, when it comes to describing things and people and how they look.What I did enjoy was how it handled two common fantasy tropes - romance and gods meddling in mortal realms. Because it did do both of these a little differently from the norm. The latter is becoming a bit overused, so it was nice to see something a little different in that respect. And there are angles to the romance you wouldn't have initially seen coming, which do involve a supporting character being very well written.In the last quarter, as with so much else, when it has to do things to wrap it all up, it does go over to those so much that it doesn't feel as focused as before. But that like that map bit is also a minor complaint. Because I was caring enough about the characters to react to certain things that happened on the way, and any book that makes me do that is doing it's job.The ending is good. Will linger for a little while. And does a good job of being a definite end.A good read. And a good end to a good trilogy.

This book had me on the edge of my seat; Elly Blake succeeded in making me fear disaster for my favourite protagonists every other chapter! No spoilers, of course, but I am over the moon with the way the character development, battles and ultimately facing the overarching enemy was handled. Multiple times I've been let down by various authors who make the mistake of rushing through the final book, sacrificing emotion and genuine 'high stakes' feelings for a quick win - Blake, however, knocked this out of the park! I cried, I shouted and I almost threw the book across the room...in my opinion, the mark of the perfect novel! The Frostblood Saga has, overall, turned out to be one of my all-time favourite trilogies 😍

Good series, I was a little disappointed with the way the ending wrapped up. There was a lot of kissing in the book, but (without adding a spoiler) the end didn’t really match up to the pace. It still could of been dealt with as a YA book. Overall a good series, and easy read.

Wow, I had been waiting for so long to read this beautiful book! There’s so many twists and turns and it keeps your emotions flowing! I can’t believt this is the end! Elly has out some herself with this book! (Spoilers) I am so happy that Argus and Ruby got their ending and with a ‘flare’ too! Please don’t be the end! Please please!
