Xmal Deutschland
I just recently discovered Xmal Deutschland at Robertos club in China Town, (Los Angeles, California). I have yet to find a copy of their 3rd (Viva) & 4th (Dreamhouse) but love the first two. I think they should follow the lead of Bauhaus and have a reunion tour.

This is classic Goth-rock. I saw them in I think 1984 on tour with pete shelley and they were stunning both musically and visually. This is much better produced than the first album. The album starts very well with Mondlicht and then continues with the moody Eiland. Sadly this would be their high point and the third album was not that good actually.

Xmal Deutschland's Tocsin
It's excellent. Even better than the previous album (called "Fetisch", which is very, very, very good). Other, past and better times... What can we do?

A GOOD STARTER TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS GERMAN-ACT!
I first heard of the band way back on the '80s when I was still a heavy new-wave aficionado. 'Twas my wild guess that the band sounds more than heavy rock-gothic as compared with Siouxsie who dominated the airwaves as the counterpart for The Cure. The album is indeed a starter if you dont know what's Xmal Deutschland music is all about. The album contains the club-breaking "INCUBUS SUCCUBUS", a must for every new wave party to start. Well, this album is not definitely their best, but a must to discover about the band. I suggest? Purchase the vinyl "INCUBUS" from the original 4AD release. A good item to keep with Xymox "A Day". Finally, it's a pity why no recording company except 4AD can release the other albums i.e. VIVA which contains the band's greatest hits like Matador, Polarlicht, Sickle Moon..wish they could re-issue this album in CD!!

4ADレーベルにおける2ndアルバム。荒削りだった前作に比べて格段にスケールアップしており、彼らの最高傑作だと思う。ジャーマン・ロックの伝統である重いビートに乗って、勇壮な、時には哀愁溢れるメロディを奏でている。霧の漂う幽玄なブナ林、古城、ゲルマン戦士といったモチーフが思い起こされる真のゴシック・サウンドと言えよう。バンド名は「永遠なるドイツ人の遺伝子」といった意味らしい。スージー＆バンシーズと比較される事が多いが、彼らが表現したいのは、そのようにドイツ的な美意識だ。ラスト2曲のボーナス・トラックは、前任者がドラムを叩いており、雰囲気も1stアルバムに近い。ジャケットはハトの群れの写真だが、CDは部分拡大されており、レコードのジャケットの方が良い。なお、3作目はストラングラーズのヒュー・コーンウェルもプロデユースに参加して、より耽美的に仕上げられた。続く4作目は、アメリカ市場を意識したかのような快活な作品だが、持前の哀愁メロディと低重心ビートは健在だった。アブヴェルツのフランクZがギターで参加している。

悪くないですけど、Siouxsie Sioux姉さんがドイツ語で歌っているという感じですね。
