I have a stack of old ATA disks that I need to go through, and this is exactly what I needed. For everyone who says it doesn't work for them, that it didn't read their disk, did you configure the drive select pins? I discovered that if it's set as a primary or slave drive it doesn't work. But when I set the jumpers for CS (cable select) it works just fine. I suspect most computers used the CS setting by default, and that's what this device is designed for. Unfortunately, the instructions don't mention this at all. You may have to go online to see the jumper settings for your drive, every brand is different and they don't always put it on the label. It also helps to have a software tool like IM-Magic Partition Resizer. For example, I have a drive right here that has three valid partitions and none of them are formatted. Windows alone simply doesn't recognize the disk in File Manager. Windows Disk Management shows the three partitions, but doesn't explain that they are not formatted. This device is a hardware tool; coupled with a good software tool and a little knowledge it will do exactly what you need.

Good device, useful but not exactly what I'd expected. I had the - mistaken (my mistake) - impression that there were 2 SATA ports and one IDE port. MY mistake, but the description wasn't clear, indicating one port as BOTH Ide/SATE (figured there would be an adapter or something) . The SATA port worked EXACTLY as expected, but use as an external drive-to-drive backup device is limited to NOT being an external drive-to-drive backup device, but it DOES function as a SINGLE IDE interface suitable for attaching a SINGLE external physical drive, even one that requires additional power (my application). As such, it worked PERFECTLY, and is in use that way right now - with good results, so far. Seems a reasonable buy for the price, and if upon CLOSE examination you determine that it WILL meet YOUR needs, I can recommend - so far - this device as a "buy" .

This little guy works VERY WELL. Excellent value for the money. As a 20+ year computer technician, I've used a number of similar solutions in the past with disappointing results. Either they just didn't work or the read bit rate was way too slow. This one had none of those issues. I had a computer motherboard fail and just needed some data from the HDD. Turned the internal drive into an external USB type device and was able to easily extract the data needed with absolutely no issues whatsoever on a Windows 10 computer. Highly recommend.

Used this with a SATA Blu-Ray drive to rip discs for Plex server. Worked with no issues or drivers needed. MakeMKV worked with it and could eject the disc just as it could in the tower PC. No difference in rip speeds from when it was in the tower either. Not having to walk across the room to the tower PC was a huge time saver. I don't even think I'll put the drive back in the tower. I'd just as soon connect this to the tower by USB and use it as needed, keeping the drive mobile between my different systems. Much cheaper and more versatile than getting an external enclosure. Now I can go through all these HDDs from retired systems that are stacked up with who know what on them.

IDE hard drives are not manufactured any more. At the same time, motherboards do not have IDE ports. For users with old IDE hard drives, this product will activate these ancient relics and enable the retrieval of stored data. . Several manufacturers make comparables. After reading user experiences, they are not reliable or durable. Of the bunch, this is probably the best. . Regardless of how good the product, it has advantages and disadvantages. Here are the "good" and "bad." . . ADVANTAGES . 1. It works on almost all brands. For the record, Western Digital brand is the most incompatible and troublesome. Yet, the WEme converter has no trouble accessing it. . 2. The device is very light and compact. All connectors and ON/OFF switch are on a small compact black plastic device. . 3. It is able to access SATA hard drives as well as IDEs. . 4. For Amazon Prime members, the manufacturer does not charge for one-day shipping. The product arrived fast. . 5. On the Amazon website, it scored 4.8 of 5.0 stars among 84 users. About 98% gave four and five stars. Only two people gave three stars. . Among comparable products, users lashed out on compatibility problems, durability and reliability issues, and DOAs. This product had no complaints whatsoever - spotless. . . DISADVANTAGES . 1. At $29, it is very expensive. . 2. Durability is unknown at this time. . . . These devices have a bad reputation. Within a year or after warranty expiration, they die. My old ICY DOCK lasted 30 uses in three years before malfunctioning. I did not get my $60 worth of usage. . 3. User satisfaction was inflated. A large number of people received free samples or discounts for their product evaluations. In return, all gave four and five stars ratings. . 4. Using the product is a very "Mickey Mouse" operation. The SATA hard drive has to be laying on the ground with its circuit board pointing up. Slipping the WEme into the hard drive contacts, the user needs to place a 3/8" POST-IT NOTE tablet underneath to support the device's weight. If he does not do this, the adapter will slide off after a few days. . Also, be very careful around the product during operation. A small bump will detach the adapter from the SATA hard drive very easily. . . ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- . . UPDATE 1: The unit malfunctioned in two weeks. UPDATE 2: After the above fiasco, I tried to find a replacement for the WEme, for I needed an adapter that would access my IDE hard drives. So, I looked at all the competitive brands on Amazon again. There was little change - all had reliability and durability issues. For these reasons, I decided to give the WEme a second try - I may have received a defective unit by chance. . Two months have gone, with the unit operating 24/7. If it continue to function, I will revise my evaluation to reflect my satisfaction with the purchase.

I purchased this to go through some old hard drives before disposing of them. Plug and play with no issues. The price was great and it will come in very handy for years.

It works as intended, and attached properly for the most part. Occasionally, the case the hard drive was permanently attached to, made it a little bit more difficult plug in without a lot of excess work of removing the case. The only real concern is that the USB cord is too short so it was more difficult to place the hard drive on a flat surface, depending on the surface I worked on. Overall, it worked fine just not super spectacular.
