does it have a mouse extension?

No, it does not. I suppose Logitech assumes most will use a laptop's touchpad. I use a Logitech trackball so am in a slightly different position; I just plop the trackball on the arm of the Lay-z-boy and I'm all set. If you absolutely must have a mouse extension, this is not the model for you.

What does the padded underside feel like? Is it like hard foam or squishy beads? It looks like it would be hard on the thighs

Feels like some kind of foam underneath the cloth cover. It is definitely not beads. I find it fairly comfortable padding, and I have a relatively heavy 17" Toshiba. HTH

Does anyone know why the price of the N500 went from the $30 range to more than $150.00?

I'm curious how many sold at this price point. I bought three at $50 each. I'll wait until the price drops to at least that but then again, something better will come along by then.

Does it come with the sofa at that price?

I know it may seem that the price is a little high, but I can assure you that this is an amazing lapdesk. I have had this for many years now and I have zero complaints about it. It has lasted longer than 3 laptops and does its job with the angle for typing and saves my wrists.
