An average read
A good tale but an average Reader gets lost in a lot of medical jargon. That makes the book a difficult read.

An adrenaline pumping read
#bookstersistersreviews - Last Widow by Karin SlaughterI love crime thrillers but the FBI/terrorist/gory serial killer plots are not my jam. So when I began reading this book I was a little apprehensive. The story starts off with an abduction of a scientist from CDC. We are given no more info about the whats or whys of the abduction and are taken forward one month and introduced to a different set of characters- Sarah and Will - the protagonists. While spending an off day at their Aunt’s house, they experience a ground shaking blast and in the process of rushing forward to help, Sarah gets abducted by the people responsible for the blast. The connection between the abduction, the blast and how will tries to save Sarah from her abductors form the rest of the story. I have kept everything as vague as possible so that nobody gets spoiled. When I started the book, I didn’t think I would like it and the initial few chapter did nothing to reassure me. This book is ninth in a series and since I haven’t read any of the rest, the relationship dynamics went completely over my head and I was totally confused. But gradually I began to form an idea of who’s who and the plot managed to sink it’s teeth into me.It was an adrenaline pumping, nail biting , edge of the seat, race to the finish after that. I finished the book in one sitting because I simply couldn’t stop turning page after page to know what happens. It was dark and gritty and disturbing but so so worth it. I would highly recommend this one to all thriller fans who are looking for a race to save the world kinda book. It can be read as a standalone.Thank you @harpercollinsin for sending us the review copy.Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Brutal & Violent Yet One of The Most Relevant Thriller In Today's Uncertain Times!
(I voluntarily reviewed a physical copy of the book on For The Love of Fictional Worlds)This is my first Karin Slaughter book; and to be very honest, I am amazed and little miffed at myself for not picking up her books before. The Last Widow takes a very well known phenomenon of survivalist and cult culture in America and their arrogance, their own feelings of superiority and their very debasement of women and brings forward to the reader to judge for themselves, the actual reality of our world right now.In The Last Widow, Michelle Spivey is shopping with her 11 year old daughter, when she is abducted by unknown men. An important scientist at Centre for Disease Control, its her job and her security clearance that makes her abduction a matter of urgency, even though there has been no sighting nor any clue to her disappearance. On the other hand, we have our protagonists, Will Trenton, an agent and Sara Linton, a Medical Examiner at Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) are basically living together, though they are having communication problems and the fact that Sara’s mother, Cathy, has been less than effusive in her welcome of Will hasn’t been helping matters. (I would like to point out here that The Last Widow, isn’t the first book for these protagonists, but I didn’t have any problems following their life, even if i had no idea about their history prior to this book!).While they are trying to integrate with Sara’s family, bombs are detonated at critical sites in Georgia; but when Will & Sara both head towards the sites to help, they are held up at an apparent traffic accident only for it to end up in Sara’s abduction.A traumatised and brutalised Will, supported by his close friends, Amanda Wagner and Faith Mitchell; Will goes undercover in the very group that seemed to have abducted Sara while Amanda and Faith end up investigating the crimes of not only the abductions, but also of the bombs that were set off in Georgia. The Last Widow, in no uncertain terms is a brutal and violent read – themes of rape, paedophilia, mass murders, child murders and racism; yet they weren’t enough to keep my attention away from the book – I flinched away, horror seeping deep into my soul while reading the book, but somehow I couldn’t stay away from the simple fact is that this is EXACTLY what is going on in this world – the white supremacy that seems to be on a rise; the Hindutva feelings of superiority in India that somehow doesn’t seem to alarm anyone except the community it seems to be aimed at; the way immigrants and some communities seem to be brutalised just for the simple reason of being born who and what they are – everything is covered in this plot; and that makes it for a brilliant read that stays with you, long after the reader seems to be done with the book!Karin Slaughter fans will love this book for they have experience of her talent; new to her readers would be intrigued with the blurb, but it will be her factual writing style that would bring back readers to her books over and over again.

Worst book in the series
This book was just not good. I have read all of Grant county and the Will Trent books. The author always makes many continuity mistakes, but in general the story keeps me reading. This story was so predictable and not at all written to entertain, but written as a vessle to throw around as many ugly stereotypes as possible: White skin? You're a demon. Brown skin? You'll never succeed. Gay? Everyone will always hate you. Woman? You cant do it, men will always keep you down. White man? You will all be successful just because of the body you were born into.In addition to that, Sara is even more annoying than ever. Who would day dream about sex while they are being held hostage by terrorist? It's just stupid writing. Also, Karin Slaughter, when a song has a similar name as another song, it's not a "version" of that song. Its a completely different song. Sarah Smiles by Panic!ATD is not a "version" of Sara Smile by Hall and Oats. Not to mention the sexy scenes between Sara and Will just keep getting more gross and less sexy.I definitely wont be reading any more of her books.

I Couldn't Read It - Far Too Repetitive
I usually love this author but I couldn't get past the first 100 pages. The chapters are written from Will's point of view and then from Sara's so ended up being extremely repetitive. I ended up skim reading and then just gave up. The chapters are quite long and when you're effectively reading the same thing twice it became boring. I'm not usually one to give up on a book but unfortunately I couldn't carry on with this one.

Very Boring Due to Paragraphs being repeated throughout the first half of the book.
I will be honest here as I am not normally someone who reads ficton but I had run of non-fiction books to read and those on order were not available as yet. Karen Slaughter was recommended to me by my daughter and I thought I would give it a go. I became bored around the Chapter 3 mark when I realised that she was repeating paragraphs and adding a sentence here and there and you don't need that in a book, particularly one with a good plot line, which it had. I did finish it though, because I will not leave a book in the middle. Will I read another of her title's, unfortunately the answer is no.

She did it again
Binge read this as soon as it came out. I love the world Karin Slaughter has created and the characters that live within it. The book was gripping and kept me on the edge of my seat while I was reading it.Kind of spoiler, but not really.I was also really happy that characters from Cop Town (Kate and Maggie) have crossed over into this series. I hope this means there’ll be a sequel to Cop Town or we’ll hear more from them in this series.

Love it, couldn’t put it down..
It begins with an abduction. The routine of a family shopping trip is shattered when Michelle Spivey is snatched as she leaves the mall with her young daughter. The police search for her, her partner pleads for her release, but in the end…they find nothing. It’s as if she disappeared into thin air.A month later, on a sleepy Sunday afternoon, medical examiner Sara Linton is at lunch with her boyfriend Will Trent, an agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. But the serenity of the summer’s day is broken by the wail of sirens.Sara and Will are trained to help in an emergency. Their jobs – their vocations – mean that they run towards a crisis, not away from it. But on this one terrible day that instinct betrays them both. Within hours the situation has spiralled out of control; Sara is taken prisoner; Will is forced undercover. And the fallout will lead them into the Appalachian mountains, to the terrible truth about what really happened to Michelle, and to a remote compound where a radical group has murder in mind…Karin Slaughter never disappoints and this was a page turner I couldn’t put down an devoured it in 2 days. Love the Will Trend series. This plot was such a great storyline that kept building and building. Love Will Trents character as he’s not your average Special Agent, he comes with his own personal demons. It shows you that no matter your background or experiences in life you can totally be what you want to if you put your mind to it.
