If you're already looking you know you need this tool
So the instructions I saw were to use a chisel to do this job. I ended up using a pry bar and beating it with a hammer. After fighting it for 20 minutes I ordered this. It made installing the strut and removing and installing the other strut insanely easy. Anyone posting to do at job without this is insane.Worked great for removing front struts on a 2012 VW Beetle. If you're anywhere near reading this review then you probably know you need this tool so just order it ASAP so you have it. Don't have any tools to compare it to but it opened up the split the perfect amount and stayed in place for removing and installing.

Also works for BMW
Insert this tool, attach your ratchet, and turn. It is amazing what a fraction of a mm makes when working on strut mounts of this type. Therein lies the issue. The tool is made of harder metal, which is great for longevity. However the strut mount is made out of aluminum (at least the BMW's is), and if you have to use it several times, the tool will gouge the aluminum. This forces you to move the tool to a new spot. Eventually you will run out of spots.

Mazdaspeed 3
This works awesome. Made the job of changing the front struts very easy. I accidently tightened it with the tool still in place and it did not break or get smashed, very durable.

Works!
Works, kinda. The tool serves it's purpose however I'll give you a hint. The part of the hub where this goes is about an inch long. When releasing the strut I put it right in the middle of that said area and locked it in place. The strut came loose but only until the bottom of the strut was trying to pass through the hub. I had to take this tool out from the middle and put it towards the bottom of said area. Once I did that the strut popped up but again got stuck at the top of the hub. I just took the tool out again and put it towards the top of said area and the strut came right out.

Struts on 2007 Ford Focus
I bought this little tool to use to replace the struts on my Ford Focus. Unfortunately, I misplaced it and had to improvise. With that being said, if you are going to change the struts on your Ford Focus with a pinch bolt, you will need this little gem to pry open the knuckle a fraction so you can install the strut. I was pleased with the purchase and if I ever needed to change struts on another vehicle with the pinch bolt I would definitely use the tool.

Did not work on an Audi TT struts
The tool seemed like it was going to work , but I was wrong. It seems to be too small for the application that is intended for. The tool started to damage the channel and did not separate anything at all. I ended up using a pry bar and a vise to get the job done. It was supposed to work in an Audi TT for the front struts.

Worth it to remove your German struts
Some say to just use a 1/4" bit, but this works MUCH better and the cost was well worth saving a lot of frustration over using on one side while trying to use a 1/4" bit on the other side before this arrived. Also silly to spend a penny more on any other brand, this is very study and will last a lifetime of occasionally loosening struts.

Failed on first use
Attempted to use for a VW Jetta. Failed during first use. Perhaps I got a defective part. Couldn't find a local source, so I had to improvise to remove and replace the struts. A major pain.

Perfect fit and use
Perfect fit. For an easier job, lubricate the tip of the tool. It will reduce friction and will be easier to twist in place.Buy for 1/2" ratchet, since the bottom strut housing is a really strong piece to move appart.Used on my Volkswagen 2010 Jetta Mk5 2.5L, Gas, Trendline Sedan.

Très mauvaise qualité
Je n'ai pas été en mesure d'utiliser l'outil comme il se doit. J'ai tenté de le mettre en place et l'embout a aussitôt brisé.

Does what it's supposed to.
It works. Took the struts out of the steering knuckles within seconds with the help of this tool. Easier to use when the knuckle and strut are removed from the car.
