Insight into a period of American history.
This book was a suggested reading for a class I took this fall. Dr. Bartoletti did well speaking for the Pickersgill family, imagining some of the details of their story and mixing them with historical record. While a diary or autobiography would be the most accurate way to explore this topic I suppose this is the next best thing. It's a very moving story for those of any age who care about this subject and an excellent way to make someone aware of these events who is not familiar with them. It's a great teaching tool and a reminder about the sacrifices of the generations that came before us.

'Whose Broad Stripes and Bright Stars': from a different view point
This is a wonderful story about the American flag that came to be flown at Fort McHenry, Baltimore, Maryland in September of 1814. We often read about a great event unaware of how much went into producing that ending. This story of the making of this Star-Spangled Banner is beautiful and inspiring.

The Flag Maker
I think the children will like this as much as I did. Certainly a goodway to teach the history of the American flag

Great Book!
Very well written book. I have read this to our 4 and 6 year old children several times and they enjoy reading and learning about our national flag! I highly recommend this.

Wonderful Story
This true story is great for girls, especially. It highlights industriousness and patriotism. In a world of vapid kid's books, this is a winner.
