Amazing Red
This product is absolutely amazing! The last time my hair was dyed was ~8 years ago and it was done by at a hair salon. Quarantining in boring so I decided to dye my own hair. I have Asian black hair so I was worried that my hair wouldn't change to red at all. I have shoulder length hair and bought 3 hicolor Red boxes and used ~8 oz of 30 volume developer. I followed the dye and developer proportions on the box and put it in my hair for a little more than an hour. It does smell horrible though and burns your eyes and nose a bit so make sure that you have good air flow and ventilation where ever you dye your hair. Only a little bit of nail polish remover easily got rid of the dye stains in my bathroom. And the dye washed off my skin (I forgot to put on vasaline so I was very red afterwards) very easily with only body soap. After about a month of washes with color safe shampoo and conditioner, the color is still just as vibrant. When my hair is dry, there no color bleeding on my clothes or pillow so I can definitely say that the color stays in my hair. I attached a picture in my review that was taken after dying and washing my hair and letting my hair airdry so my hair in the pic is still damp and uncombed. When my hair was completely dry, it was a shade brighter but I don't have a picture.

Lovely Shade of Red
I had been using the boxed hair dye kits & wasn't happy with the results (the color of the red wasnt intense enough). After doing some research, I stumbled across the L'Oréal HiColor HiLights & took a chance. Being used to the box kits where you have a bottle, I wasn't use to mixing in a bowl & applying with a silicone brush (& having to buy the developer separately). I'm glad i found this! The red is great & seems to be lasting considerably well. I would recommend only washing your hair once or twice a week though, & using colder water. It's been two weeks now since my dye day, & ive washed my hair about 4 times. The color is slightly fading, but this isn't necessarily a bad thing, as it looks more natural. Don't get me wrong, I love the bright look too after a freshly dyed job. I used the 30 developer creme. I would also recommend starting at your ends, otherwise your roots will be too bright. I started at the ends, & am happy with the results. in the past, with other hair colors I would always start at the roots & they would be much more intensely colored versus the rest of my hair. I was also concerned that this would damage my long hair & make it dry & brittle, due to the intense color. This has been the least damaging diy dye I've ever used! I'll have to eventually try the other colors too!

Long lasting colour!
I have been re-buying this product every 6-8weeks since Dec 2017. I had very dark dark brown hair and it is super thick. It honestly does wonders. I used two boxes with lo'real 30 vol developer (i wish i used 40) for the first dye. It wasn't the colour I wanted so I re-dyed it the next day using another 2 boxes (4 boxes in total) and it worked perfectly. I used the same developer. Some people said dying it twice fried their hair but I had no problem. It really just depends on the type of hair you have. I re-do the roots every 6-8weeks with the same developer and use one box of the hicolor red and then use manic panic pillar box red or vampire red to refresh the rest of my hair. For up keep i use a red conditioner + an argan conditioner and also hair masks. I also only wash my hair once a week (which most people can't STAND to do but washing my hair takes soooooo long that it doesn't bother me only washing it once a week. It still looks fine) the colour lasts wayyyy longer. I honestly haven't noticed incredible amounts of fading too. Every time I go to re-do my roots, my hair still looks super red and I have had no patchiness at all. love this product!!!!

Only red color I use now...
I love this hair color. I have very dark, kinky-curly hair, but I've colored my own hair at least 30 times, so I have more experience and knowledge than the average consumer when it comes to choosing the right products for my hair and taking care of it. Normally before coloring my hair red, it's already some shade of blonde, which definitely adds an extra oomf to the color (since this product is meant for dark hair) - but, normally my roots are in a good few inches, and the color takes to it perfectly. I use it with 30vol developer, and I get such a bright, bright color. Like all reds, it washes out faster than any other hair color, and that's no blame for the company; it's just how red pigment is. I always recommend this brand to people, and now my sister uses the magenta for her hair (she's a blonde, so we use 10vol developer for her, and it's so pretty). This color has NEVER disappointed me - it's always bright, shiny, my hair doesn't get dried out, and the color sticks around longer than boxes from drug stores. My only complaint is that I have to buy two tubes to do my hair (thick, just over shoulder length) then again, this product is only meant to use as high lights - I use it for my whole head. I really wish they made a bigger tube of it!

but I've also been able to grow my hair long because it is great shape not having to take the bleach abuse
I've been dying my own hair for 20 years, so I have used many many different products to accomplish many many different looks, colors, etc. For the past 5 or 6 years I've stuck mostly with a bright red, and after trying this dye, I don't use anything else! My hair is medium brown, and because this is for doing highlights on dark hair, there is some lift built in and I DON'T HAVE TO USE BLEACH!! Obviously, this cuts out a step and saves time and money, but I've also been able to grow my hair long because it is great shape not having to take the bleach abuse. I do recommend using this to touch up your roots, and using a semi-permanent stain for the ends, which will keep your hair in really good shape. I've tried two of the three of the red box colors-- the MAGENTA gave me a neon blue-pink, while the RED is a nice, bright yellow-based red. I wonder if the reviewers who don't get intense color are not using the product correctly somehow? My results are always bright, intense color. Reds fade fastest, but even after fading this remains a nice reddish-pink that I still get compliments on ("Ohh, neat color!")

Loreal Hicolor Hilights Red and Magenta
I purchased four tubes (2 in RED and 2 in MAGENTA) I thought I was going to need four! The reviews on here said you'd need many tubes if you have long hair (mine goes to my bra strap on my back) and I had more than enough left using two. I mixed a tube of RED and a tube of MAGENTA together with a 30 volume developer and the brand recommended. Dying my hair cons: It smelled soooooo strong. I literally had tears in my eyes and I was yelling to my friend "OH MY GOD HELP ME!" The fumes from this stuff made all my eyeliner run down my face and I was crying from my eyes burning. It eventually stopped but the scary thing is, I dyed my hair two nights ago, my eyes still burn, and I still feel sick (the fumes probably made me sick) yeah, I still feel weird and my head hurts, I'm kind of freaking out haha. It's also hard to mix. There were so many chunks I wanted to get an egg beater. But I said eff it and used my hands (with gloves on) to mix it and squish the chunks. It was easy to slab onto my head and I used a brush for some of the time but I eventually used my hands. Pros while in the dying process: Doesn't stain skin, comes off very easily. My friend has dyed dark dark brown hair and she tested a strand and her hair turned out a hot pink/ plum color in just the 15 minutes she left it on. (just shows how good this stuff works) I put it on my whole head for 35 mins. My hair color before this was like a medium brown/red, not very pretty it had a lot of copper. In just 15 minutes I could see my hair turning pink and I was scared because I wanted RED! (my fault for doing half and half with red and magenta) Pretty easy to do, just use a shower cap or something to keep the heat in. When I washed it out: I used the coldest water I could stand. I washed it for a few minutes then applied a deep conditioner and I didn't let the water run clear before I conditioned or after, so expect some bleeding if you go outside in the rain, use an umbrella. I didn't get much rub off on my towel though. Final result: My hair is completely fried. Some of my hair felt like I had hairspray in it, it was so crunchy I was freaking out. Today, two days later I can barely run my fingers through it anymore it's that damaged and stiff. You really need a protein and keratin treatment or few after this. I can't tell you how long it stays, I haven't shampooed yet and I wash my hair twice a week. When my hair is in good condition again I am going to use just the RED color and I'm sure I will get the Ariel red I've been wanting! I do like the color now, it's just too pink based. In some lights such as florescent it looks like Ariana Grande's hair when it was more pink based, but in dimmer or darker lightings it looks red velvet, which is great I've been wanting a red enough color that shows up in any lighting instead of those stupid box dyes I've been using that you can only see some red in the sunlight! Over all, this stuff is pretty good, but don't expect RED if your hair is black. I'd suggest bleaching it a shade or two lighter, letting it heal, then use this. Very pretty color though! I can't wait to see how it fades then dye it with just the RED! :)

Quick Fix
I used this after messing up with a different hair dye that made me ginger... I was ready to just bleach to white and use a semi permanent, then.... then i found this magic little thing. :D If you want a totally different color when you have black hair, you WILL be disappointed. When they say 'for dark hair' it bascially means, for unbleached hair, but if you have black hair, you're gonna have red tints. Also, if you want a pink toned red instead of an orange toned red, this is for you. If you want an unnatural color, this is for you. NOTE: For your entire head, unless you have a pixie cut, get at least three boxes. I have long thick hair so i needed three. Leave it on for about 35 minutes, tin foil/heat really does make a difference with this product, and make sure you use more developer than dye like it says on the box, you really need to reserve with how much you use, and the more developer, the brighter it comes out... but don't flood it with developer. Just a bit more than half of the whole mixture should be developer. Hope this was helpful! I know that when i was looking for a hair dye i really could have used a review on a specific product giving me detail on what to do, how much i'll need, and what colors it can turn out as with what hair color i have! (It fades to an auburn btw, like a brownish red... so redye it when it starts to fade or it'll get dark and be harder to get back to the red it once was!!!!!! I cannot stress this enough!!!! i waited the whole summer to redye cause i didn't really care if it faded for the summer, and it became dark redish brown, and now it took two dyes and it's not quite as bright.... :( might do a bleach for like 10 minutes just to lighten the hair and remove some of the dye that's still there.... Sorry if this is megga long! Want to help out!!!!

Vibrant high lift colour when used with 30 volume on diety blonde to light brown hair
One of my favorite colors. Saves me from having to bleach than dye... I can colour my medium coloured hair in one step with 30 volume. Colour lasts a lo g time. I refresh the ends with arctic fox or pravana vivids or any other semi permanent so I only use this on my regrowth.
