Creative Writing For Dummies

A good primer and a good refresher. Not enough to make an accomplished writer after first reading, but enough to help writers learn the ropes of writing adventure. Book touches on what is most important for effective writing. It gives good thumb-nail sketches of the different writing venues, and delves into the scariest and more discouraging part of writing - finding a publisher. The book is easy to read. Dirty up the pages with margin notes, yellow highlighting, and dog-earing important stuff.

This book is a treasure trove of tricks and examples. Using a yellow highlighter allows you to revisit important insights with ease. Although storytelling isn't my strong suit, I truly valued the lessons learned. I wholeheartedly recommend it, as I found great inspiration within its pages.

I haven't finished yet, I'm on chapter 5, but this is exactly what I needed to get started writing. She covers numerous topics, details I'd never thought I'd need to know; all the information is very meaningful. As a bonus for me, my first story idea involves British characters, so it works for me that the author is British, too. Yet, the information she gives is relatable to anyone.

I just started reading it.. I didn't finish chapter 1 yet but this book is AMAZING SO FAR!!!! I'm glad I got the book and have no regrets. Initially, a long time ago I thought to myself I let me write a book to get famous and rich, not that's not even my mindset anymore. This book gives you the motivation and encouragement you need. THANKYOU.

I'm writing my first (sci-fi) novel and this book is helping me a lot. It is full of pragmatic advice. I didn't even read half of the book but I can honestly say that is very helpful for newbie writers like myself.

When I bought this book, I thought I was buying a US edition. What I received is the latest UK edition. It's still a good "tool" book, full of great prompts, suggestions, observations, but it's written for a UK audience and this comes clear in terms of the publishing advice it offers, even in the spelling of various words: colour vs. color, etc. It would be nice if Amazon would make the distinction between the editions more clear - I wouldn't have chosen to buy the UK edition if I'd known.

I like everything about it. A great book to read for a writing beginner.
