Question 1

How is the gutter installer attached to the gutter. I assume there should be sealant applied under the flange and then screwed to the gutter.

Accepted Answer

The gutter installer simply drops into the hole that should be in the gutter (hole should be 2.25" wide). It does not need to be attached with screws as it just hangs freely through the hole, and kept up by a larger plate above the hole. Sealant is not necessary, however can prevent leakage from the sides of the hole.

Question 2

Is it necessary to keep the old flange that is protruding from the gutter from the old downspout? Looks bad with copper tube half covered up by it.

I installed this product by cutting a hole into my new gutter and dropping/silicone caulk the Rain Chain Copper Gutter Installer accordingly. I would get hid of the old flange assuming that your already cut hole (in the gutter) is the right size/round or at least smaller than the flat flange of this product. If not, then you may want to only cut away the part of your flange that is covering the "tube" portion of this installer. Hopefully that will improve the overall appearance.

Question 3

I don't have gutters. i have a steep 10-12 pitched roof, a piece of aluminum flashing to direct rain off a dead valley. can i use a rain chain? how ?

The chain has to hang on something.  If you can construct a hook at the end of your valley that is cinnected to something stronger than just a piece of flashing so that the rain runs down the valley and to the chain, it should work well.  On a gutter you buy an insert for the downspout hole that has a bar from which to hang the chain

Having new gutters installed - 6" seamless gutters.  Will these work?

Yes, as long as you have a 2.25 diameter hole cut that the neck of the gutter installer can protrude through.
