Decent handle, just not for small scale ones
I purchased this handle looking for something that I could also use in hobby modeling, the heavier jobs; but still be able to be used in the normal tool box. This handle fit the bill perfectly in the normal toolbox regard. Files with angular tangs are steadier to hold. However, it is a bit large to be used comfortably with needle files. The clamp mechanism just doesn't have enough bite on the bit to keep it from wiggling around.I'm still giving it 5 stars, since it holds regular files well, functions smoothly, seems sturdy, and is cheap :)

Good quality
Works for 8in and 10in files.

Good, not great
Substantial, hand filling girth, but oddly short. Tail cap hits the middle of my XXL hand. Sort of like a compact pew pew; always 1-2 fingers off the grip. Still, 4 out of 5 stars.

I like it.
I use this to sharpen chainsaw with round files. I use the different sized files so this is great for putting a handle on each file. Yes it's plastic but who cares? It has l low-end up just a few times but that's an easy fix to tighten it again. The only change that I would like to as is some sort of rubber texture added to the grip as it is very smooth and a littler slippery. The product is good for this price and even better when you consider that I was able to find very few similiar items on the whole Interweb.

Types of tools bits it will hold
Apparently adequately functional, although the tightening threads feel a little coarse. It apparently will not grip flat shanks, although tapered shanks are accommodated.

Excellent tool, but price nearly doubles in 5 days - will not buy more
I just purchased this on February 1 and am very pleased with it. It worked exactly as described, and solved my problem of weakening grip strength which makes it difficult to work with some of my hand tools. However, I returned here tonight (Feb. 6) to purchase two more, only to discover that the price had almost doubled. It was a good value at the Feb. 1 price, but I can do without it if they're going to price gouge me. Can only recommend it if the suppliers bring the price back down to a reasonable level.

Only good for files 8" long or less
Bought this file handle and the Nicholson 21474U. The knurling on this unit is barely there and it is impossible to clamp the file's tang with any significant force. On the other hand, the Nicholson grasps the file very well with an easily turned knob. Another problem with the General Tools holder is the depth and width of the hole don't allow the tang of a file longer than 8" to extend into the handle far at all. This results in the file easily moving side to side. The Nicholson version is by far the better of these two designs.

Turn anything into a tool
I didn't know this device existed, but it's SO useful. Basically, a handle with a small clamp inside. Insert anything that will fit – file, saw blade, drill bit, nail... – and you can tighten the handle around it and make a tool. The handle tightens by turning clockwise. Two jaws are pulled into the body of the handle and clamp tightly around anything in the way. You could do the same sort of thing with a Vise-Grip, but this is more comfortable to use, and it's cheap enogh that you could use it as a permanent handle for a file if you wanted.

Necessary and sufficient.
Comfort of use and ease of adjustment meet my needs and expectations. The handle is described as “wood”, but it is indeed resin. This is not an issue for me, but it might be for someone stubbornly pedantic, or expecting it to be some sort of heirloom piece.

Not Wood
Okay handle, but the one we got is made in plastic, even though the description said 'wood'.

A very versatile tool
This handle works well for needle files on up to large files. It also works with hack saw blades and reciprocating saw blades. One of these in your tool box will add versatility to your existing tools. It will save space compared to having handles for each separate file or blade. I wish I would have found these sooner.
