Great for little kids - big and light
My son uses this in school for science class, and loves it. Since the reviews were so mixed, I bought him two so he could choose. This was the big light cheap one, the other one had a case and a built-in light. After two months, this is the winner. It's light, so his hand doesn't get tired, huge so he can look at big things, and still fits in his desk. No scratches yet, and the fancier magnifying glass has been lent to another kid - permanently.

Quality is terrible - 2x power not 10x
This is a terrible product. Yes it is cheap in cost, but this item lacks so much in quality, not to mention the specification is misrepresented, I urge AMAZON to remove this item from their store. I took it out of the package and could see that the lens did not fit in the frame well. So I shook it from the handle and the lens was very loose slid all around when I shook it. As I inspected the lens, I noticed that the lens had several scuff marks (straight out of the package) , so I took soft cloth and very gently rubbed the lens, hoping that it was dust, when the frame and lens fell apart in my hand. I then took the lens and held it over some text and was shocked to see that the magnification was the same as my Mighty Bright 87610 which is 2x power. Not sure if the smaller lens is truly 20x, but when viewing through it, it is so blurry that it is near useless. Please do not waste your money and time on this inferior, misrepresented item.

Good value for the price
Functional item to assist with reading small print. Plastic handle seems sturdy, 20x insert magnifier is useful. Is a bit cumbersome as it is large, but it makes it less annoying to read larger areas of print than an itty-bitty magnifier would. I plan to keep one in my (roomy) handbag, protected by an old sock. As accessories go, perhaps not the height of glamor, but practical solution to keeping it unscratched!

Cheap but effective
I just bought this so my boys could go out and cook bugs or start little fires outside. Works great for both. Has a plastic handle but the optics are fine for our purposes.

It's great to see
You don't realize just how important vision is until you're loosing it! I purchased this extra large magnifying glass for my father for Christmas because he is suffering from Macular degeneration. It's tough when you've been an avid reader your whole life and then reading steadily becomes more and more difficult as your vision becomes worse. This magnifying glass was the most powerful one I could find on line which is the reason I purchased it. Dad likes it as well because it is very light weight enabling him to hold it for long periods of reading time. I give it 2 thumbs up!

Not first-rate
This magnifier is light and easy to handle. It's more like 3x and 5x magnification - which is fine for most objects, though the small 5x magnifier must be held about 1" from the object. It's usable at a wide range of positions between you and the object being magnified. But the glass itself seems to have been molded rather than critically polished. It has a slight X-shaped flaw in the middle of the lens which is too weak to ruin the image but causes a slight wave in it. It was inexpensive for a large glass ($8.24 plus free shipping) and it did the job I needed it to do: I have history books with copies of maps from the 1600-1800's in sizes much reduced from the originals and needed some magnification to read the small print. So I gave it three stars.

Great magnifying glass
Great for kids. I bought this for my 7 year old. He was very interested when he played with one at a friend's home. So I got this for him as an extra gift at Christmas. He loves to play around with it and see things bigger. It works well and is a great magnifying glass.

They can call this 10x but it's not, and ...
They can call this 10x but it's not, and they can only claim this by the fact that if you hold it far away from the object or text, then you can get a large enlargement. Most importantly, though, this is a junk piece of plastic: there are seams and distortions in the magnifying "glass" because it's plastic, not glass. It's cheaply prized because it's a cheap product.
