Our hand-stitched traditional needlepoint belt is 1.25" in width and is finished with full grain, chestnut colored leather and a solid brass buckle. We recommend adding 2 inches to a men's pant size to obtain the best Smathers & Branson belt size. For example, someone who wears a size 36 pant would wear a size 38 in our belts. When the waist is an odd size, increase the belt size by 3 inches (i.e. a size 33 wears a size 36 belt). The Smather's and Branson belts are made well and this one was no exception. If this is your first time buying one you may not realize that you need to size up. My husband wears a 34 belt, but in this brand takes a 36.

Too small and poor customer service
I have never made a public complaint about a company before, but BUYER BEWARE with these guys. There is a reason the web is filled with complaints about their customer service. Look at the attached picture: It is a photo of three other belts I own, all size 34, and the Smathers and Branson belt for comparison. You can see it is shorter than other size 34 belts that I own. The belt is unused/unworn and still has the tags on it. I immediately removed the belt and reboxed it the first time I tried wearing it once I realized it was too small. I am a reasonable customer, and requested that I be able to return it for a Smathers and Branson store credit rather than a refund. Their tag line that says “Smathers and Branson® stands firmly behind all of our products. If you are not 100% satisfied with your shopping experience or purchase, or if you have any questions or comments, please contact us.” I not 100% satisfied with my purchase and I requested an exchange for a belt that is either mis-sized or runs 2 inches smaller than every other size 34 belt that I own. They held firm that there were no refunds or exchanges. I suppose I didn't read their comment carefully enough: "If you are not 100% satisfied with your shopping experience or purchase, or if you have any questions or comments, please contact us" It doesn't say they will make it right, it just says to contact them. Touche. BE VERY CAREFUL BUYING ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY; READ THE REVIEWS ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE. $175 is a lot for a belt that is too small.

Size up!
This belt is beautifully crafted, but unfortunately much smaller than expected. I wear a 32 waist and normally get a 34 belt, but with this I got 36 based off other reviews and it was still too small. If I had gone 2 sizes larger it would've been perfect for the event I wanted to wear it too.
