Stained book
I was excited to receive this book for my child. However, when I received the book it seems that something has been spilled on it. The book is warped and every page is wrinkled from being wet. Not sure what it is, but there is a yellow color to it.

I like the concept of this book and was excited to hear that the classic "Imitation of Christ" had been adapted for children. I would definitely buy it if the illustrations better reflected the beauty of the ideas expressed in the book. I think that beautiful artwork is so helpful in capturing the childrens' imaginations and leading them to an intimate relationship with our Lord.

A Grandmother shares her faith with her Grandchildren
I frequently pick up a Classic, THE IMITATION OF CHRIST, and when I heard about Elizabeth Ficocelli's THE IMITATION OF CHRIST FOR CHILDREN: A GUIDE TO FOLLOWING JESUS, I purchased one for each of my grandchildren. They are 8 and 10, and it makes them feel "grown up" to read something their Grandmother is reading. I especially like the introduction....it talkes about Thomas A'Kempis: who he is, when he lived and why he wrote the book.

wonderful
Every family should have this book for each child to read and reflect on as they mature. Elizabeth has done an excellent job at writing a guide for kids on how to follow Jesus. A must have in every home!!!

I bought this book as an end of year gift for the kids in my "catch up" catechism class. As I looked for materials to teach from I discovered the call for personal - intentional discipleship that has been building within the church for the last few years.I also discovered there are a LOT of parishes just like mine - full of mainly very elderly women with few people under 60. What became very clear in my reading was that if we fail to catch a vision of the "Kingdom of God" here among us and fail to become "apprentices" of Jesus - focused on imitating his gospel life and teaching - many parishes - including mine - may just disappear. The cause? Aging congregations and our failure to present and live the gospel in meaningful ways that speak to this generation. If we as adults need to have an active, living relationship with God - how much more our children. As a catechist I am very good at teaching "about" God and there are many wonderful programs that help me do this. But if my focus is just passing on a bunch of facts about God and the Church - the kids will know a lot - but it will start and end there. They will not know or experience the life changing relationship with God that the Popes call us to and we see in the lives of the saints.Even though it is so much easier to teach facts! The "personal" part of intentional discipleship is just that - our personal experience with our Creator - and while we can speak of our own experiences - if our goal is to help children have this experience for themselves there are few materials to help us. That is why this book is such a wonderful resource! It presents this great and famous spiritual guide at the level and understanding of your average 8 to 12 year old and helps them take the first steps in building a real relationship with Christ. There is a focus on prayer and receiving the Eucharist as well as notes for parents. It is a great book which I highly recommend!
