A REMARKABLE HERO
This is a book about the undaunted bravery, courage and selfless sacrifice of a true hero. During the 8 years he spent as a “terp” he untraveled countless plots against the Seals and our allies thereby saving countless lives. When Chris Kyle says he saved more lives than even Chris did that is really something. Johnny Walker is fascinatingly introspective, philosophical and complex given his ideas about religion, life, honor and integrity. This book is so well written that I felt like Johnny Walker was sitting in my living room and personally telling me his amazing story. From the moment I started the book I couldn’t put it down. It is so riveting it reads like fiction instead of the larger than life quiet unassuming hero that he is.It is an insightful look and perspective into life in war torn Iraq and the factions and insurgents. This is a different perspective than I have gotten though I have read several of the Navy Seal books. The brutality and lack of respect for life is a sad commentary of a country in turmoil. While Johnny Walker was unraveling plots against our military there were multiple assassination attempts against him and his family. His wife also demonstrated amazing strength and courage throughout the book but the trip from Mosul to the “safety” of Baghdad was especially harrowing. The Seals took it upon themselves to begin paving the way out for Johnny Walker in spite of his altruism for his country and desire to see growth and change in a country he loves. It eventually became obvious to Johnny that America was the best option for he and his family. I am grateful to the Seals, to Johnny and their families for the incredible sacrifice they have made for our liberty and freedom. They are not just the good among us but the finest America has to offer. The great news is that he is now living the dream and hopefully catching up on the liberty, freedom, peace and tranquility long overdue and that I know I often take for granted. I can never fully express my gratitude to Johnny Walker, the Seals and the rest of our military and their families for their sacrifice.

Personal, detailed, informative
At the end of some stories that claim to be "extraordinary," I end up feeling like I wasted too much time and energy trying to read my way onto the bandwagon. Not so with Johnny Walker. This book tells a great story and offers a still-timely viewpoint that I would have never been able to access otherwise. This is no spoiler when I say at the end Johnny Walker (the name still cracks me up) says the truth of what's happening in Iraq is much worse that what's reported is shamefully true. And it saddens me that both he and I acknowledge that his ideals for his homeland will probably never come to pass. But ultimately this is a story about hope. I learned a lot about a man I'll never meet, and it impressed me greatly - and humbled me when I realized that I can't relate to anything he's been through... but that really just made the lessons and details in this story that much more important for me to read.Without getting political, without grandstanding or preaching (which everyone on FB seems to be doing lately), Johnny Walker opened my eyes to a whole other aspect of war and fro politics, and he did simply by using a great voice for his own life story.I recommend it - and I highly recommend the Audible version. His actual voice adds a whole other layer to his story. Great stuff.

From Simple Economic Survival to a US War Hero
Johnny Walker was a simple fellow that learned as he went about how to become one of the most sophisticated resources the Navy Seals could rely upon to achieve their missions and stay safe.Fortunately, it turned out well for him and his family as he was successfully relocated to the US. That did not occur without considerable delay and the loss of his lifetime savings. In spite of the situation it is great to hear about human beings in stressful situations that do not forget those who helped them--the Seals that fought with and and then for Johnny to get him out of Iraq.Maybe the readers can use this story to target the bungling of the law that was passed to help those who have helped this country resettle in the US in comfort and safety for their families. At least, reading this exciting tale informs one about the challenges of the Islamic and tribal cultures that curtail Iraq's future. It is too bad that the leaders of the US were so poorly prepared to follow up on the Iraqi needs post US invasion. The American people got what they did not vote for but was handed to them in a default Supreme Court decision and many will pay for this for generations to come.

I feel it's necessary to recommend it. The great merit of Johnny's story
This is the first review I've ever written: This personal account of life, of family, of dreams, and of war was so impactful, I feel it's necessary to recommend it. The great merit of Johnny's story, I feel, is that through his writing and experience, the reader is able to engage in the humanity of a culture the nature of war precluded us from fully comprehending during its event, and leave with a greater measure of empathy and compassion for the Iraqi people. The reader is also enabled to better appreciate the extraordinary work and service of our own servicemen and women not only through accounts of their actions, but especially through a unique contextualization of the environment they operated in. Even though this is a book that addresses weighty topics, it is personal, accessible, and immensely informative throughout. Johnny's experience allows the reader to examine and reaffirm the value of life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness, and peace in their own lives, and remember that being an American is not an event of geography, but a state of heart claimed by values, not politics.

Better then expected
It’s an interesting story. Be prepared for the writing to mature as it goes on. Early on the writing is very rough and almost made me want to put the book down. It’s accented by moments of almost comic book style heroic actions difficult to paint as reality. It however matured into one more grounded in sacrifice, loss and a fresh start, less about heroic duties and more about the reality of the war.

A hero..The Seals and Johnny Walker the Iragi.
Incredibly interesting and educational. I admire the Seals so much and to see the way they treated, taught and cared about Johnny Walker says a great deal. Johnny Walker was also a hero as he stood for what was good and if only more people would that we certainly wouldn’t be in the mess we have in society that we have today. Cheers to him, the Seals and the American people. Penny Costin

Hard headed and heartfelt!!
This book is totally different than my usual staple of history or thrillers. I was attracted to it because of it authentic insight. Iraq has such an important history for thousands of years and this modern look at the current scene is first class from a first class Iraqi who experienced it from Desert Storm, onward.

Well written with very interesting pacing. A different point of view then generally found in this genre, refreshing.
